Boneo Buzz May 9th

Dear Parents and Carers,

We were so pleased to welcome our Year 6 students back from camp this week! They returned with big smiles, wonderful stories and plenty of great memories. A huge thank you to our staff and parent volunteers for making the experience so special and to our students for representing our school with such positivity and enthusiasm.

As we head into the weekend, I also want to take a moment to wish all of our wonderful mothers, grandmothers, aunties, carers and special people in our school community a very Happy Mother’s Day. Thank you for the love, care and encouragement you give every day — we hope you’re celebrated and appreciated, not just on Sunday, but always. A special thank you to our amazing office staff – Amanda, Kellie and Sue – and our wonderful parent volunteers for helping with the Mother’s Day Stall today.

Attitudes to school survey (AToSS) Years 4—6

The AtoSS is a voluntary annual student survey offered by the Department of Education to assist schools and the department to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions and experience of school. We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction and will be asking students in years 4-6 their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

A note will be sent home via Compass to the parents of year 4-6 students with further information about the survey and information for parents if they do not want their child to participate. Student participation in the survey is voluntary and parents may opt out if they do not want their child to participate following the steps in the note.

Annual report

Each year, schools prepare an Annual Report to inform parents and the wider school community of the school’s successes, activities and achievements throughout the year. Please take a moment to have a look at the report which includes our performance data. Our Annual Report is available for viewing on our website at Annual Report 2024. These results help us to celebrate our successes and guide future improvement initiatives. We are extremely pleased with our results but will continue to strive to make improvements to provide the best for our students.

Enrolment process / School tours

This term, we started our school tours for potential new preps and their parents for 2026 and have many dates available throughout the term. If you know of interested prep parents for 2026 please encourage them to ring the office to book a tour. They can also access further information on our website for the statewide Foundation enrolment timeline and process that applies for children starting Foundation (Prep) in 2026. For parents with prep siblings starting in 2026, I encourage you to enrol your children early this term to give us an indication of our enrolments for the new year. This really helps us to work out how many classes we will have for 2026.

Enrolment forms are now available from the office.

Toys and Valuables

To help keep our learning environment focused and to ensure nothing gets lost or damaged, we kindly ask that students leave expensive toys and valuables at home. We want to make sure everyone’s belongings are safe, and that school remains a place where everyone can concentrate, play and learn together.

Thank you for your support and understanding!

Snapshot of Learning

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term at Boneo Primary School.

Jump Rope for Heart is the Heart Foundation’s primary school skipping challenge that helps kids move more, have fun, and raise funds for life-saving research and programs.

This year we’ve got an audacious goal to see our student Heart Heroes at Boneo to log 20 hours of skipping throughout the program!

Register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link below to get started. www.jumprope.org.au/parents

Students will be skipping throughout the term in PE lessons and during recess and lunch break, during this time you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

We will hold our school Jump Off Day on Friday 27th June, this will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

Finger Board Crew – We Need Your Help!

Hi Boneo Community,

We’re a crew of young skateboarders working together to create our very own Finger Board skatepark but we can’t do it without your help!

We’re looking for donations of the following materials:

  • Plywood
  • Wire
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Nails
  • Tools (any kind)
  • Metal rods
  • Thick timber offcuts
  • Black spray paint

We’re also hoping someone in our community might be able to help us build the track. While we’re keen to do as much as we can ourselves, we’d love to learn more about building, like following designs and creating different shapes.

If you have some time and a Working With Children Check, please email Ms Brown at:
Stacey.Brown3@education.vic.gov.au

Thanks for supporting our building dreams!

Annual Boneo Cross Country House Carnival

On Monday 12th May, we will be holding our Annual Boneo Cross Country House Carnival.

Students are encouraged to wear their house colours along with appropriate clothing and footwear to take part in.

A timetable for the day is below along with the distance each age group will be running. We will endeavour to run this as close to the scheduled times as possible.

From this event the students will accumulate points for their House, and we will also select our School Cross Country Team for 2025, which will represent the school and compete in the District Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday 21st May.

As in previous years, the car park at the top of the oval will be out of use from 8.00am – 3:15pm as it forms part of the cross-country course for our students. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation with this.

We look forward to another fantastic day of sporting fun!
