Boneo Buzz: 18th October
Dear Parents and Carers,
I want to congratulate our students for the way in which they have started this term. During my visits to classrooms, it has been pleasing to see that our students are engaged, focused and committed to their learning. I am also exceptionally proud of our Year 4 students who attended school camp this week and represented our school with pride. Feedback from staff at the camp has been positive and uplifting.
Bunnings Garden Fundraiser
On Sunday 1 December, Boneo PS will be at Bunnings Rosebud for a Sausage Sizzle fundraiser. Our amazing Boneo Garden team, Luana Iacuone and Martina Franjic, have been busy liaising with Bunnings to secure us a spot to raise much-needed funds for a new Greenhouse for our Kitchen Garden. We will be there from 8am to 4pm, and would love your support with volunteering to cover the following shifts:
8:30-10:30am
10:30am-12:30pm
12:30pm-2:30pm
2:30pm-4:30pm.
If you are able to help, please contact the office or speak with Luana or Martina.
If you are after a yummy sausage on the day, please bring your ‘cash’ with you and help support our garden program.
Planning for 2025
It is approaching the time of the year when our teachers begin to consider class groupings for the next year. Certain information is helpful in this process and parents, who believe that exceptional circumstances exist for their child/ren that should be considered in placement for next year, need to forward the information in writing to me by Friday 1st November at boneo.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
If you have previously made requests, please complete a new request so that we know what you currently would like.
Please know that all requests are carefully considered and reviewed by our Leadership team, but cannot always be guaranteed. Requests based purely on friendships or staffing are not appropriate. We strive to place each student with a balanced mix of friends they are comfortable with, as well as peers they collaborate well with. Creating the right class dynamic is a complex process that requires many hours of thoughtful planning.
As we continue the planning process for the 2025 school year, we would greatly appreciate it if families who will not be returning to Boneo PS in 2025 contact the office as soon as possible.
Uniform Reminder
It was wonderful to see so many students wearing their school hats this week. Please assist us by encouraging your children to bring their hats to school every day. Additionally, if a student has hair longer than shoulder length please ensure it is tied up.
Oaks Day 2024
Oaks Day preparations are now in full swing. Ticket sales are flying, so please ensure you make contact with the office if you are interested in attending. Numbers will need to be comfirmed with the venue by Friday 1st November.
The continued success of this major fundraising event is testament to our incredibly generous extended community. The event is supported by a far reaching range of community stakeholders and we are extremely grateful for their ongoing support.
Our stunning promotional material has again been provided by Natalee Chiodo of ‘KDM Creative’ . Her stunning designs truly set the theme for our gorgeous event and we thank Natalee for jumping onboard for another year.
We are thrilled to announce that Annette Sanfilippo and Vanessa Harlem will be returning for this year’s event.
Make up artist Vanessa (@vanessaharlemmakeupartist), will again be providing our beauty station on the day, sharing her expert tips and advice and ensuring our guests look and feel amazing. We are very spoilt to have the services of such an accomplished make up artist at our event. A huge thank you to Vanessa for her incredible generosity.
‘Milliner Girl’ Annette (@annettesanfilippomillineryart), is a renowned millinery artist with years of experience in the fashion industry, having worked with many industry leaders. Annette will be coordinating our ‘Fashions on the Field,’ and offering her styling mastery. Annette has the most amazing collection of headpieces, if you are still searching for the perfect Oaks Day piece.
Thank you so much for the offers of support with organising our major Term 4 Oaks Day Fundraiser. We are hoping parents can help us to secure silent auction items and donations by approaching local businesses. If everyone secures a sponsor we will have plenty to offer on the day.
Below is a link to a google doc where we ask parents to record which business/es they will approach as well as a letter that you can give to each sponsor. There are also printed copies of the letter available from the office Please feel free to add any other business you are going to approach.

Could you please bring all donations to the office, or email to the school boneo.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Thanks in anticipation of your support.

Snapshot of Learning
Grade 3 Shadows
In Inquiry we are learning about how the earth orbits the sun and on Thursday 10th October we went outside in the morning and traced our shadows with chalk so we could see how far the earth rotated throughout the day. We checked our shadows at 12pm and 3pm and could see that at each time our shadows were in different spots. This wasn’t because our shadows had moved, it was because the earth had moved small amounts around the sun since the morning. Our shadows were more stretched out earlier in the day because the sun was still rising and smaller in the middle of the day because the sun was right above us.

TREC T4-Week 2
Outdoor Education students engaged in collaboratively building outdoor shelters and constructing tents. Students selected their groups and resources to safely and efficiently construct their outdoor shelters. Skills required to complete the activity were: creativity, problem solving, reasoning, justification for choices where resources were scarce.
A huge thank you to Boneo staff, family and friends for donating resources to ensure the activity was successful!

Division Softball
An intense day out at the softball division championships this week. With many epic home runs, magnificent catches and swift bowling taking place, these Year 6 Boys will be heading to regionals in Cheltenham later this term. This is the first time in 14 years (to our knowledge), that Boneo has made it to this level for this sport. All students involved should be very proud of their efforts!
