Boneo Buzz: Friday 13th December

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the past few weeks, I have been overseeing the student leadership selection process to appoint the 2025 school leaders, and I am pleased to announce the results of our rigorous selection process.

Leadership is a quality that all students at Boneo Primary School are encouraged and supported to develop.  Through the curriculum and extra curricula activities, all students are encouraged to develop the skills necessary to be a leader. This ensures that all students perceive themselves as leaders and have the opportunity and confidence to take on leadership roles.

Student leadership roles foster the development of both interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, including communication, negotiation, teamwork, and self-reflection. Additionally, students are encouraged to become active and reflective listeners, enabling them to respond effectively and collaborate with others to identify and achieve shared goals.

The current School Captains worked with me to develop interview questions, a selection rubric and follow up discussions to ensure fairness and integrity throughout the entire process. Our Year 5 applicants prepared letters and written applications and then interviewed for the positions they had applied for. I was incredibly impressed with all of our students!

Congratulations once again to our 2025 Year 6 Leaders! We look forward to witnessing the positive impact they will undoubtedly make in the coming year.

Staffing update for 2025

I would like to welcome Kate McNamara to our Boneo teaching team for 2025. I would also like to congratulate Pauline O’Brien and Lily Sloan who were both successful applicants for our Education Support positions in 2025.

 Kate McNamara

I am thrilled to be joining the Boneo Primary School team in 2025. Having worked at Boneo, I admire the strong and welcoming community presence at the school. My passion for teaching has developed throughout the years, working with children in various settings, aiming to inspire and encourage them to be their best. I have a strong belief that students are at the centre of their learning, and that as teachers, we can foster their development into actively engaged and well-equipped members of our community. Outside of teaching, I enjoy being outdoors, anything from the beach to camping and nature walks. I am also passionate about healthy living and mindfulness movement, intertwining this into my teaching practice. When students have a calm and regulated mind, they are more inclined to challenge themselves and build resilience. I look forward to working alongside the incredible team at Boneo Primary School, working together to create positive outcomes for all students.

Snapshot of Learning

Library Books

A reminder to all families to make sure you look at home, on bookshelves, in their bedrooms for any library books that your child/ren may have borrowed and return them to school as soon as possible.

Congratulations!

The Fox family made a hanging basket on behalf of Boneo PS and entered it into the Rosebud Community Garden Open Day. The basket was all about the life cycle of a seed. Marley and her sisters also entered a basket with a fairy garden and herbs. Their basket came first with the most votes! Marley and her sisters won a sunflower growing kit and two books about bees and worms.

Congratulations to the Fox family!
