Dear Parents and Carers,

The School Improvement Team have over the last couple of weeks participated in Learning Walks. Learning walks are short, focused observations in classrooms that allow leaders to be visible, build trust and stay connected to classroom practice. They are an important part of strengthening teaching and learning across the school.

By regularly visiting classrooms, we gain valuable insights into how school-wide approaches – such as clear routines, consistent expectations and evidence-based practices – are being implemented. These visits also create opportunities for timely feedback, professional support and celebration of great practice. It ensures that improvement strategies are embedded and responsive to our students’ needs. Ultimately, learning walks help foster a culture of shared responsibility and continuous growth, all in the service of better outcomes for students.

As leaders, we observed high-quality teaching and learning across all classrooms, with calm, orderly environments and students who were highly engaged in their learning.

Successful Sushi

A big thank you to our School Council for organising a successful Special Lunch Day with sushi—it was a hit with students and staff alike! We’re thrilled to share that the event raised $580, which will help enable us to continue offering a wide range of learning opportunities for our students. We truly appreciate the time, effort and organisation that went into making the day such a success and look forward to your support of our next special lunch day.

Parent opinion survey – 18 August to 19 September

We need your help! Soon we will send parents and carers an invitation to participate in the annual parent opinion survey. This survey is being conducted from Monday 18th August to Friday 19th September and is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Please look out for a Compass note coming out in the coming fortnight with a link to complete the survey. The greater the number of responses the more accurate the feedback. Your time will be very much appreciated.

Planning for 2026 – Enrolments and Departures

As we move into the second half of the year, our planning for 2026 is well underway. This includes reviewing class structures and workforce planning. If your family is planning to leave Boneo PS at the end of the year, please email us as soon as possible. This helps greatly with our planning for next year.

STEM

Prep students became game developers in STEM, using MakeCode to create their own arcade adventures! They designed unique pixel-art characters (sprites) and brought them to life on the STEM arcade machine – learning coding while having a blast! 

Indonesian Incursion 

Last week, our Years 1, 2 and 3 students were emersed in an authentic Indonesian cultural experience with a hands-on Indonesian incursion granted by the Australia-Indonesian Institute. Students participated in various Gamelan music and dance workshops, led by guest presenters from Baguskan Bendigo. 

At this morning’s assembly, some Year 2 and 3 students shared the Javan Warrior Dance they learnt.
