Boneo Buzz August 22nd

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful celebration of stories and imagination we had during Book Week! Our dress-up parade was a highlight, with students and staff arriving in a spectacular array of costumes inspired by their favourite characters. The excitement and creativity on display showed just how much a love of reading brings our community together.

Reading offers so many benefits – it builds vocabulary, strengthens comprehension, sparks creativity and develops empathy by allowing us to step into the shoes of others. Most importantly, it helps children discover the joy of learning and the power of imagination.

Here are a few simple ways families can nurture reading at home:

  • Read together every day – even ten minutes makes a difference.
  • Let children choose books they love – interest fuels motivation.
  • Talk about stories – ask questions, predict what might happen next, and share your favourite parts.
  • Model reading – when children see adults enjoying books, they’re more likely to do the same.

A big thank you to our families for supporting Book Week and helping to make reading a special part of school life. Together, we are building lifelong readers!

Father’s Day / Special Person’s Stall

Our annual Father’s and Special Person’s Day Stall is on Wednesday 3 September. The stall is a wonderful opportunity for students to purchase a special gift for their dads, grandfathers or other important figures in their lives. Gifts range from $2 to $15. We look forward to helping our students celebrate a very important day.

Where is that school hat? SunSmart Reminder

Hats are recommended when the UV rating is 3 or above, so it is time to prepare for wearing a school hat to school every day. From next week our school hat should always be worn when students are outside, when at school.

Snapshot of Learning

Book Week

Junior Journalists in Action!

Our Junior Journalists from Prep, Addison and Evie have been busy capturing the amazing learning happening across our school! Armed with iPads and big smiles, they’ve been popping into classrooms to snap photos of students hard at work and enjoying their learning.

From hands-on projects to group discussions and creative activities, our journalists are helping us see school through their eyes. Not only are they building photography and reporting skills, but they’re also celebrating the great learning taking place every day.

Keep an eye out in upcoming newsletters – you might just spot a photo taken by one of our talented Junior Journalists!

Kitchen Garden

Our Year 3 students were busy bees in the garden today taking the first steps on the Kitchen Garden Worm Farm Project. The students drilled holes in our bottomless bins, dug them into the soil and even relocated some local worms from the garden to get things started. Being the environmentally conscious group that they are, one student even came up with the idea of re purposing the shavings from the drilling as ‘grass and vines’ for their Narnia display and diorama! Clever!

Rugby Gala Day at Olympic Park

On Wednesday 20th August over 70 of our students went to the annual Tag Rugby Gala Day at Olympic Park, Rosebud where Ali and his team from Melbourne Storm ran a brilliant event. We entered 6 teams, 2 x Year 4, 2 x Year 5 and 2 x Year 6.

The weather was amazing and the students had a fantastic day playing against other schools in our District. Our practise sessions in previous weeks clearly showed with many of our teams winning all of their matches.

Well done to everyone involved and to our students who attended.

FUSE Cup

On Wednesday 20th August our Boneo eSports team took to the track to compete in the FUSE Cup Rocket League tournament. Our students embodied the values of the competition and represented Boneo through Respect for each other, their opponents and event staff, empathy through friendly and kind competition, and determination to do their best. We had one team make the semi finals by finishing 7th out of 34 teams. Congratulations everyone!
