Boneo Buzz: 9th August

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful week we have had at Boneo Primary School, with many events at our school, and advancements in student learning and wellbeing. Our Year 5 students successfully visited the Melbourne Zoo as part of their Inquiry Learning, Real Time Learning and AiCubed Academy visited our 5/6 TREC group talking all things robotics, and our Preps celebrated 100 days of school!

It was a joy to visit the Preps and celebrate their first 100 days of school with them. There were many grey-headed students with curlers, walking sticks and old fashion clothes. The event was an opportunity to celebrate their amazing journey at our school and to celebrate the achievements and milestones over the last 100 days. I want to thank all our Prep parents for the effort you put in to preparing your child for the day, for the work that went into their outfit and for joining us at school for games and activities in the afternoon.

Preview to Learning

All families are encouraged to view the ‘Preview to Learning’ which is shared by classroom teachers each week via Compass. The preview provides students, and families, with information of the learning for the following week. This preloading is a helpful part of the learning process.

Our very own vegetables for sale

We have made great gains with continually improving our Kitchen Garden. A number of projects are in the pipeline including the development of a greenhouse. As such, we will be holding a Monthly Market on Thursday afternoons from 3pm to 3.30pm. A group of senior students will work with Luana on picking and preparing items for sale. There may be fresh produce, something we have cooked for an after-school snack, or even some seedlings that have been grown in the greenhouse for sale.

The first market will be on Thursday 15th August.

Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.

We sent you an invitation to complete the survey via Compass on 1/8/2024.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will remain open online until Friday 30th August 2024.

Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.

The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.

The survey is available in English and 10 other languages: Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. If you require assistance in another language, resources may be available for you. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if you require assistance in another language.

Snapshot of Learning

100 Days of Prep

TREC – Cyber Academy

The Cyber Academy TREC group had an incredible visit from Charlie with AiCubed this week, as part of our school partnership with Real Time Learning. He brought his Year 7-9 student’s FRC robot that was too fast to run indoors! Our students were in their element and asked some insightful questions about troubleshooting the code, the mechanics, and the cost of a robot this size. Thank you to Charlie and Luke.

Year 2 Inquiry

In Inquiry, the Year 2 students have been investigating buoyancy. Students investigated materials that float and the features of a successful boat. They also designed boats that they will create and put to the test next week!

Year 1 Inquiry

As part of their Inquiry unit focusing on ‘Members of our Community’, students in 1C interviewed students in 5C about what it is like in Year 5.
