Year 3 McCrae Homestead Trip
On Wednesday 1st of May Year 3 went to McCrae Homestead to learn about the History of European settlement.
We learnt that in the 1980’s Georgeanna and Andrew McCrae lived in Gordon’s castle in Scotland. Andrew was a lawyer but he decided that he wanted to be a farmer and he wanted to do that in Australia. Georgeanna said she would move to Australia after Andrew had built her a house. It took him six months to get to Australia, when he got to Melbourne he only grabbed the wood that he needed as he made his way to Boonwurrang country.
Andrew started to feel lonely when he was building the house so he told Georgeanna that the house was done so she would start her journey to Australia. Georgeanna came with two cows, two pigs and two chickens. She also brought wheat seeds and berries and when she sailed along the sea she also got food from other countries.
The McCrae family became friends with the aboriginal people and the first peoples taught them how to live from the land that was so unfamiliar to them.
We will be performing at assembly next week where we will share more of what we learnt and now what we are curious about learning.
