Boneo Buzz: 25th October

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am thrilled to share with our community that our teachers have been awarded the 2019 Australian Mathematics and Science Institute (AMSI) Choose Math National Mathematics Primary Teachers of the Year. Ryan Jellie and Liz Dewar have been involved in a DET initiative for the last 18 months designed to improve Mathematics across the school. This award acknowledges the outstanding work of our entire staff, collectively they are transforming the way we teach Mathematics. We were awarded $6000 towards our Mathematics program and our teachers received $6000 for professional learning. Below is a copy of the Bio used in media releases.

OUTSTANDING PRIMARY TEACHER

The CHOOSEMATHS Outstanding Primary Teacher Award recognises a primary school teacher whose influence and passion has successfully enhanced the experience of learning mathematics for students. The teacher will be a leader in creative and engaging practice, who fosters a positive environment in which students are able to flourish and achieve success.

Student Driven Initiatives

We are pleased to announce that our recent Junior School Council (JSC) coordinated fundraiser for the Cassowary raised $416.85. Congratulations to our school community for supporting the JSC initiative.

Human Powered Vehicle Update.

The students increased their training experiences recently and ventured out to Casey Fields. They began their training on the smaller ‘Jellybean’ track and worked their way on to the larger track. The students worked on gear changes, pedalling, speed, cornering and working hard in the vehicles for extended periods of time. Some parents and staff even joined in on the fun and took the bikes for a spin!

We’re excited to announce that the Human Powered Vehicles have since been taken off site to be vinyl wrapped by Progress Signs in Mornington, thanks to the Simmons family. The students in the HPV program used their artistic skills to come up with a range of designs, with the two best designs being selected for our own vehicles. We look forward to their unveiling at a future assembly.

Oaks Day

We are very excited to announce that the ‘Old Apple Shed’ in Boneo, will be opening their doors to those who would like to continue socialising following our event, or for those who are happy to join the festivities later in the day.

The wonderful staff at the ‘Old Apple Shed’, have very generously offered to donate a percentage of all food and beverage sales on the day back to our Oaks Day fundraising drive.

Each week, we continue to share our appreciation for the generosity of our local business community in their support of our school and the Oaks Day event.  It is amazing to have so many people willing to donate, whether it be a large or small contribution, it all goes a long way to ensuring the success of the day.

Our sincere thanks to the following sponsors for their very generous donations. Please see a more comprehensive list of sponsors later in this newsletter.

Millinery Artist, Annette Sanfillipo is opening her studio for another ‘Oaks Day Pop In’.

Annette is very generously offering a hire fee of $50 for attendees of our event.

It is well worth a visit to ‘Millinery Girl’ Annette, her designs are simply stunning and she is a styling genius.

The studio is located at the corner of First Avenue and Point Nepean Road, Rosebud, and will be open Monday 28th October 2pm – 7pm or by appointment.

Choir Excursion – Rosebrook Aged Care

On Thursday, the Boneo Choir visited Rosebrook Aged Care for their second concert of the year.

The choir have been working on songs that the residents may remember from their youth. The choir performed Lollipop and Que Sera Sera, and had all the residents singing along!

A wonderful performance by all of the choir members which was very well received by the Rosebrook residents.
