Boneo Buzz 24th April
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a productive three days we have had to start Term 2. Students returned from their holidays refreshed and ready for all of the wonderful learning opportunities in store for them this term.
A heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful grandparents and special friends who joined us for our whole school assembly and classroom visits this morning. It was truly lovely to see the joy on our students’ faces as they proudly shared their learning and time with you. Your presence made the morning so special and meaningful for our school community.
A reminder as we begin the new term, that student safety is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Before and after school, school grounds are supervised from 8.30am to 8.45am, and from 3.15pm to 3.30pm (students travelling on the Cape Schanck bus are supervised until they are picked up which is usually around 3.40pm). Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are supervised by an adult.
Families can access a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy via the school website.
Child Safety at Boneo Primary
Boneo Primary School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe. We have a zero tolerance for child abuse and are committed to protecting children from harm.
The 11 Child Safe Standards set by the Department of Education are a framework designed to ensure that children are safe and protected while in the care of schools and educational institutions. These standards guide schools in creating environments that prioritise child safety and wellbeing. Here is a brief overview of each standard:
Standard 1: Culturally safe environments – Establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
- Standard 2: Leadership, governance and culture – Ensure that child safety and wellbeing are embedded in school leadership, governance and culture.
- Standard 3: Child and student empowerment – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
- Standard 4: Family engagement – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
- Standard 5: Diversity and equity – Equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected in policy and practice.
- Standard 6: Suitable staff and volunteers – People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
- Standard 7: Child-focused complaints processes – Ensure that processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
- Standard 8: Child safety knowledge, skills and awareness – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
- Standard 9: Physical and online environments – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
- Standard 10: Review of child safety practices – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
- Standard 11: Implementation of child safety practices – Policies and procedures that document how schools are safe for children, young people and students.
These standards are designed to ensure that every child is safe, supported and protected from harm while in the school setting. They guide schools to continuously develop practices that prioritise child safety and wellbeing.
Our school is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students. For detailed information regarding our approach to child safety, we encourage families to visit our school website. ANZAC DAY
Tomorrow is ANZAC Day, a day to commemorate Australians and New Zealanders who have served in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. ANZAC Day as we know it was first observed on 25 April 1916, as people came together to commemorate the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli, Türkiye, on 25 April 1915.
This important tradition has now become an opportunity to stop and reflect on the sacrifice and dedication of all our veteran and service community, and the families who support them.
It is a significant day for the department, and we proudly recognise our many staff who have served over the years.
We recognise First Nations people who served in conflicts, and we acknowledge their service, sacrifice and ongoing impacts on their families. The annual Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service is held during Reconciliation Week and is on Saturday 31 May 2025 at the Shrine of Remembrance. For more details and to register to attend, refer to Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service.
The Rosebud RSL will be hosting the ANZAC Day March tomorrow. The march will commence at 9:30 am from the corner of Point Nepean Road and Ninth Avenue and head to the Rosebud Cenotaph on the Corner of Jetty and Point Nepean Roads. This will be followed by the main ANZAC Day Service.
Our School Captains will be laying a wreath on our behalf, and it would be wonderful to support them by attending as a community.
Farewell to Sean
This week, we farewell Sean as he completes his time at Boneo. We sincerely thank him for his contributions and dedication during his time with us. On behalf of the entire school community, we wish Sean all the very best as he embarks on his next chapter.
Farewell from Sean
To the Boneo Schooling Community,
It is with a sadden heart that I unfortunately have to say goodbye to the Boneo Schooling Community as I embark on the next chapter of my life. From day one I have felt very welcomed here by all the staff, students and parents/carers. Even though my time here at Boneo Primary School only lasted two years, I have gained knowledge and memories that will last me a lifetime. I feel very grateful and privileged that this was the first school that I was employed by. I would like to say thank you to all of students and parents/carers that I met along the way that made my experience at Boneo so enjoyable and continued to make me want to be the best ES member I possibly could be. To the teachers I would like to say thank you for sharing your time and wealth of knowledge that I can use later in life when I finish my teaching degree. Lastly, I would like to say thank you to the ES team, those who may have moved on and those that are still there. Thank you for the endless laughs we have shared over the past two years and for helping sculpture me into becoming the ES member I am today. The support the staff have shown me and the connections I have built I will always hold dearly to my heart. I hope the next School Community I join will be similar to this one because it doesn’t get much better than this.
Until our next meeting, I’m wishing everyone all the very best.
Thank you,
Sean Hewitt

Softball
‘At District Softball this week, Boneo sent a boy and girls team to compete. There were only two girls’ teams so we played them twice, as well as some practice games against a boy’s team. We won the grand final 5-4, we are excited to be continuing Boneo’s legacy! A big thankyou to Mrs Richer and Kristin who were amazing coaches.’

‘Yesterday at softball, we won all of our games to make it to the grand final! The other teams played well, but we left the day undefeated. The grand final was very close, but we ran away with it in the final innings. The final score was 12-19. We now go onto the next stage of the competition, and we are really excited for it’.
