Boneo Buzz 21st November

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Parent Information Session on The Resilience Project this week. It was wonderful to see such strong support for the wellbeing of our students and our community. The evening provided a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of how gratitude, empathy and mindfulness can help build resilience in our children and ourselves.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to Martin Heppell for generously giving his time to present, share his experiences, and continue supporting our school community. We are incredibly grateful for his partnership and commitment.

Some of the messages I took away from the evening included:

· Connection is powerful – positive relationships are one of the strongest protective factors for children.

· Small moments matter – simple daily practices can have a big impact on wellbeing.

· Gratitude builds perspective – regularly noticing the good helps shift thinking and boosts resilience.

· Empathy strengthens community – modelling kindness encourages children to do the same.

· Mindfulness supports emotional regulation – short, calm moments help students reset and refocus.

· Language shapes mindset – how we talk about our own challenges influences how children approach them.

· Vulnerability is strength – being open about feelings helps normalise them for young people.

· Consistency at home and school makes a difference – shared routines and expectations help children feel secure.

· Resilience is learned, not innate – it grows over time through practice and support.

· Wellbeing is for everyone – adults modelling healthy habits teaches children more than words alone.

Thank you again to everyone who attended. Your engagement and commitment to supporting your child’s wellbeing helps strengthen our whole school community.

Social Media Changes

From 10 December 2025, new social media age restrictions will come into effect across Australia. Under the new legislation, major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Reddit, Kick and Threads will be required to prevent children under 16 from creating or maintaining accounts.

What does this mean for families?

The responsibility largely sits with the platforms themselves, not with children or parents. However, this presents a great opportunity to engage in conversation with children around ‘why’ this is happening and the importance of online safety.

Important information:

Messaging apps like WhatsApp and Messenger, as well as education and health services, are expected to be exempt from the restrictions. Each platform will determine its own age verification methods, which may include facial analysis, behavioural data, or secure ID checks designed to protect privacy.

A message from our Environmental Leaders – Daisy and Indi

HAVE YOU MET FISH FILL-IT?

You may have noticed a new addition to our school: FISH FILL-IT!

He sits in the office waiting for your soft plastics. Feel free to come say hello to our new friend and maybe give him a snack.

His favourite foods are chip packets and wrappers.

He also has a blue flag on his back so you can’t miss him.

Fish Fill-It is a large fish shaped metal structure which collects all our rubbish and stops it from going into our environment.

This is just one small part of Boneo’s effort in making our world a better place.

So please one small packet out of the ocean makes a big difference.

Boneo Primary School eSports Team Shines at The FUSE Cup 2025

This year, the Boneo Primary School eSports team proudly represented our school community in The FUSE Cup, competing in Mario Kart, Rocket League and Just Dance. Our team proved that determination, teamwork and a positive mindset can make all the difference.

The team trained once a fortnight, balancing eSports with their regular school commitments. Even with this limited schedule, they demonstrated impressive growth across the season, supporting one another, refining their strategies and showing excellent sportsmanship at every event.

Their hard work paid off, with the team qualifying for the finals in one of the competitions, an outstanding achievement given the high level of competitors, and one of our team members earning the MVP award in another event, a testament to the group’s collective skill development, positive attitude and consistency.

In Term 4, using the skills they had built throughout the year, the team also ran their own eSports events at Boneo. Students worked together to design and build a custom arena in Minecraft Education, which became the centrepiece for an exciting in-school competition that showcased creativity, collaboration and leadership.

Participating in The FUSE Cup and running their own events provided the team with opportunities to learn, grow and challenge themselves in a safe, inclusive eSports environment. The Boneo Primary School community is incredibly proud of their efforts and achievements.

Congratulations to the entire team. You represented Boneo with pride, resilience and heart, and we wish you all the very best as you carry these skills and experiences into your future endeavours.

Melbourne Museum-Year 3

Our Year 3 students recently enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX, designed to strengthen and extend their learning in Earth Science and Geography. Throughout the day, students explored a range of exhibitions that supported their understanding of ecosystems, the major geographical divisions of the world, and how climate and vegetation are interconnected.

The visit to IMAX for Australia in 3D further brought these concepts to life, allowing students to see real world examples of the climates, landforms and ecosystems they have been studying in class. It was a valuable, engaging day that helped students connect their classroom learning to the world around them.

The students had a wonderful time throughout the excursion, fully immersing themselves in each activity and display. They asked thoughtful questions, showed genuine curiosity and learnt a great deal from the museum staff and exhibitions. We were incredibly proud of how they consistently demonstrated our school values throughout the day.

The Year 3 excursion to IMAX and the Melbourne Museum was fantastic because I learnt so much and the 3D movie looked so cool!!!  – Albie 3B

The Year 3 excursion to the Melbourne Museum was fantastic because the documentary was amazing and the Blue Whale skeleton was massive, and it was cool to watch how it got there but there was a lot of walking- Lachie 3B

The Year 3 excursion to IMAX and Melbourne Museum was fantastic because Lila, Luna and I were in a group and learning about different environments and how animals live in different types of the world but when I went to the movie it made me feel sick- Summer 3B

One thing I loved in the Melbourne Museum was the “Our Wondrous Planet” section and the crystals. In the middle of our wondrous planet Jordie, Albie and I found this little observatory that looked like a floating little island, meanwhile at the crystals there was a little station where you can see what you’re worth in gold. The Melbourne Museum was just fantastic, and I would love to go again sometime- Memphis 3B

The excursion to Melbourne Museum and IMAX was fantastic because I learnt some cool facts.
The excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX was fantastic but the IMAX movie could have been longer.
The excursion to Melbourne Museum and IMAX was fantastic so go there now- Zoe B 3A

The excursion to Melbourne Museum and Imax was fantastic because the experience was amazing. All the time you were entertained, and it was so much fun to learn about climate and climate change.
The excursion to Melbourne Museum and Imax was amazing, but you had to get up so early to go and we got back late!
The excursion to Melbourne Museum and Imax was incredible so I would love to go there again, and everybody should be able to go- Olive B 3A
