Boneo Buzz 20th March

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have been busy organising today’s Family, Food and Fun Night, and are thrilled to be hosting this wonderful whole-school event.

Next week’s edition of The Buzz will feature a reflection on the event, along with a selection of photos and the total amount raised. All funds will go toward the purchase of new devices for student use, supporting learning across the school.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Foundation Enrolments for 2027

As we begin planning our Foundation Transition Program, we are offering school tours for 2027 enrolments.

Parents of students who have younger siblings and would like them to attend our school, are encouraged to collect an Application for Enrolment form, from the office.

If you know any family members or friends who are considering Boneo Primary School for 2027, please encourage them to contact the school to book in for a tour.

Child Safety at Boneo Primary School

The Child Safe Standards set by the Department of Education are a framework designed to ensure that children are safe and protected while in the care of schools and educational institutions. These standards guide schools in creating environments that prioritise child safety and well-being. Here is a brief overview of each standard:

There are 11 Child Safe Standards:

  • Standard 1: Culturally safe environments – Establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
  • Standard 2: Leadership, governance and culture – Ensure that child safety and wellbeing are embedded in school leadership, governance and culture.
  • Standard 3: Child and student empowerment – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
  • Standard 4: Family engagement – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
  • Standard 5: Diversity and equity – Equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected in policy and practice.
  • Standard 6: Suitable staff and volunteers – People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
  • Standard 7: Child-focused complaints processes – Ensure that processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
  • Standard 8: Child safety knowledge, skills and awareness – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
  • Standard 9: Physical and online environments – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
  • Standard 10: Review of child safety practices – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
  • Standard 11: Implementation of child safety practices – Policies and procedures that document how schools are safe for children, young people and students.

These standards are designed to ensure that every child is safe, supported and protected from harm while in the school setting. They guide schools to continuously develop practices that prioritise child safety and wellbeing.

Please refer to our school’s website for further information and polices relating to child safety. The school welcomes any feedback you may have in this area.

MHiPS – Community Matters: Growing happy kids, together!

At Boneo, we believe it takes a community to help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. And the best part? Families and teachers can make a pretty amazing team.
As a parent, carer or guardian, you’re the person who knows your child best — you see their quirks, their rhythms, and the little changes that tell you when something’s off. At school, teachers and support staff add another piece to the puzzle. Teachers spend almost 1,300 hours a year with your child, they notice different kinds of clues throughout the day too. They see them in a whole range of moments — learning time, playtime, group work, and the busy transitions in between.
In these settings, teachers sometimes notice things that don’t always show up at home: a child hanging back from friends, finding it harder to concentrate, getting frustrated more quickly, or needing extra reassurance during the day. They might spot a child who struggles with transitions, seems unusually quiet, or shows a pattern of worries at the same time each day. These small clues can help us understand when a child might be carrying some big feelings.
As previously noted, families bring the superpower of knowing their child best! You understand what’s happening at home, what routines help your child feel calm, and what is needed to help them shine!
When we put these two pieces together, it increases their safety net. Children benefit from a strong, consistent support system. Regular communication—whether through a brief conversation at pick‑up, a written note, or a courteous email—helps ensure that families and teachers remain aligned and able to support each child in a steady, coordinated way.
Most importantly, kids notice when the grown‑ups in their world are working as a team. It tells them, “You’re surrounded by people who care about you.” And that feeling—being held by a whole community—is one of the strongest foundations for good mental health.
