Boneo Buzz 20th June

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Share the Joy of Learning event this morning was a wonderful success! Our classrooms were filled with proud, excited students sharing the incredible work they do each day — and what a joy it must have been to see their learning in action.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and make the morning so special. Your presence and encouragement mean so much to the children, and these opportunities to connect school and home make a real difference.

A big thank you also to our dedicated staff for creating such a welcoming and engaging space for families to experience the joy of learning firsthand.

Celebrating Our School Council

We’re incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated and passionate School Council at Boneo! Their ongoing support and commitment help make our school the vibrant, inclusive place it is.

A big thank you to our councillors for organising our upcoming Sushi Day — we know our students (and staff), are going to love it!

Very soon, you’ll be able to learn more about the amazing people behind the scenes, with School Council member bios going live on our website. Stay tuned — we can’t wait for you to get to know them!

Snow Sports Camp is Back for 2025!

After the huge success of last year’s Snow Sports Camp, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be heading to the snow once again in 2025! We’ve secured the beautiful VSL Lodge from Sunday 31st August to Friday 5th September, and we can’t wait to hit the slopes with our Boneo PS community.

This unique camp is open to students in Years 4 to 6, with family members invited to attend with each student. Depending on interest and numbers, we may also be able to accommodate siblings in Years 7 or 8, making this a special opportunity for the whole family.

If you’re interested in securing a place, please contact the Office via phone or email and if you have any questions, feel free to speak with Tom Pollett at the Office.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity — we’d love to see you on the slopes!

Principals for the Day

A big thank you to Jaxon L and Noah B for stepping into the role of Principal for the day. They embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm and showed great leadership and responsibility. Both Jaxon and Noah were a tremendous help around the school and taking their duties very seriously.

Snapshot of Learning

Regional Cross Country Championships

On Wednesday 18th June Anabelle R represented Boneo P.S at the Regional Cross Country Championships and produced a phenomenal run to finish in 4th place.

She will now go on to the State Cross Country Championships in July and is the first individual student to get to this stage of a swimming, athletics or cross country event since 2022 and one of only three students in the past 10 years.

An incredible achievement and we wish Anabelle all best at the State Championships first week of Term 3.

Boneo P.S. Table Tennis Championships

Over the last few weeks during lunchtimes, we have held our annual Boneo P.S. Table Tennis Championships for both boys and girls for students in Years 3-6.

In the boys’ competition we had over 80 entries with some incredible matches including some brilliant finals games.

Overall, our top 4 were:

1st Walter J

2nd Dylan B

3rd Jordy M

4th Elliott B

In the girls’ competition we had over 70 entries with some brilliant matches and impressive shot making along the way, including an unbelievable standard by both girls in the final.

Overall our top 4 were:

1st Annika S

2nd Emily H

3rd Marcella G

4th Anabelle R

All of our top 4 students will be presented with their ribbons, and our champions with their medals and trophy at our Week 10 assembly on Friday 27th June.

A huge well done to all of the students who entered and a massive thank you to our House Captains who helped to run both events.

Looking ahead to next term we will be holding our first ever School Chess Championship, which will be a mixed competition, along with our annual badminton championships for both girls and boys.

Year 6 Market Extravaganza

Congratulations to the Year 6 cohort for a successful Market, showcasing their products and cumulative efforts during this unit of work. The rest of the school enjoyed perusing the displays and purchasing products of such high standards. With various price points, and such an array of stalls and wares, there really was something for everyone!

If your child has come home with a set of the collectable ‘Legend Bound’ cards, an innovate product designed and developed by Year 6 team Sherlock & Charlie, you may like an insight into the rules for these highly ‘playable’ decks. The Legend Bound game was inspired in part by Magic the Gathering, a battle style card game. In this two player card game, opponents use ranked elemental cards in which to build a defence or attack against an opponent. Follow the link below for the full rules and game play hints including a feature of ‘How Rare is Your Card?’ star ranking system and a QR linking you to a short video outlining how to play!

Miko the Not-So-Bright Monkey (a creative short story written by Harrison in Yr 5)

Miko was a monkey who thought he was the smartest in the jungle—but he really wasn’t.

One sunny morning, Miko saw a bird flying with a shiny berry in its beak.

“Ooooh, that must be a magic berry!” Miko shouted.

He wanted one too. So he climbed the tallest tree, grabbed a red berry, and yelled, “Now I can fly!”

He held the berry in his mouth, flapped his arms really hard, and leapt from the tree.

He didn’t fly.

He fell.

Splat! Right into a muddy puddle.

A turtle passing by looked at him and said, “You know you’re a monkey, right?”

Miko blinked, mud in his eyes. “Maybe I needed two berries.”

The next day, he tried again—with one berry in each hand. This time he didn’t even jump; he just slipped, rolled down the tree trunk, and landed in a bush.

Every animal in the jungle watched him and laughed. Miko sat there, scratched his head, and smiled.

“Well,” he said proudly, “I’m getting closer.”

And though Miko never learned to fly, he did become famous—as the monkey who never gave up, even when he had no idea what he was doing.
