Boneo Buzz 17th July

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 3!

I hope all of our families enjoyed a restful break and had the opportunity to spend quality time together. We are looking forward to another busy and rewarding term filled with exciting learning opportunities, special events and continued growth for our students.

This term, our focus remains on ensuring every child is challenged, supported and successful in their learning. Our teachers have been busy preparing engaging learning experiences aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, while continuing to strengthen students’ confidence, independence and love of learning.

A reminder that, following feedback from our parent community, we have replaced Student-Led Conferences with Parent-Teacher Interviews. These interviews will be held over the coming weeks and provide an important opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress, discuss their learning goals and strengthen the partnership between home and school.

The interviews will be held on:

Week 3: Tuesday 28 July 3:30-5:30pm

Week 4: Tuesday 4 August 3.30-4.30pm and Thursday 6 August 3.30-4.30pm.

We encourage all families to make a booking when interview times become available via Compass early next week.

This term also brings a range of exciting events including our much-loved Book Week and Book Character Dress up parade, sporting opportunities, camps and excursions, student performances and many opportunities for our students to showcase their learning. Please keep an eye on Compass and our newsletter for important dates and event information throughout the term.

Student attendance continues to be one of our highest priorities. Every day at school provides valuable opportunities for learning, developing friendships and building confidence. At the end of the term, we will celebrate students who have achieved 95% attendance or above, recognising the positive habits and commitment that support their learning success. Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring your child attends school every day they are well enough to do so.

Finally, I would like to thank our staff for the enthusiasm and dedication they bring to our school each day and making the start of term positive for our students, and our families for the strong partnership we share. Together, we continue to make Boneo Primary School a place where every student feels safe, valued and inspired to achieve their best.

Here’s to a wonderful Term 3 as we continue Making Every Moment Count.

Professional Practice Day – Monday 17 August

Please note that Monday 17 August is a Professional Practice Day for staff.

Students are not required to attend school on this day, as our teaching staff will be engaged in professional learning and collaborative planning to strengthen teaching and learning across the school.

Exciting News – Our School Joins the ‘School Breakfast Clubs’ Program!

We’re excited to share that our school is now part of the School Breakfast Clubs Program, an initiative delivered by Foodbank Victoria in partnership with the Victorian Government.
This program provides our school with a variety of free, healthy, and nutritious food to support students during their time at school. It’s designed to ensure every student has access to the nutrition required for energy they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Why It Matters
Having access to nutritional food throughout the school day helps to
· Boost concentration and learning
· Enhance student behaviour
· Ensure students feel seen, valued and cared for
What’s Available
 Lunch Support
· A selection of ready-to-eat, nutritious meals is available for students who need extra support with lunch.
· Food will be provided to students on a need’s basis; this may be identified by parents or school staff.
· Lunches will be stored at the general office, and will be distributed upon request of the parents, student/classroom teacher. Office and wellbeing staff will assist with providing these supports.
· A large fruit bowl will also be made available in the general office foyer for students who may need to supplement their lunch.
Home Food Packs
· These packs include a variety of food items including breakfast, lunch, snack and meal items and are available to families needing additional support at home.
· Please contact the general office if your family is in need of these supports.
 Rotating Food Pantry
· Occasionally a small selection of pantry items will also be available for families who would like to take some items home. When in stock, these items will be available in the office foyer.
We’re proud to partner with Foodbank Victoria to bring this valuable program to our school community. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please contact the general office or your child’s classroom teacher.

Snapshot of Learning

Table Tennis Championships

Over the last few weeks of Term 2 we held our annual school table tennis championships for our year 3 – 6 students.
In the girl’s competition we had 48 entries with Annika S defending her title in style defeating Tahlia W 3-0 (21-4, 21-6, 21-8) in sets in the final. In our 3rd placed match our very talented Year 3 student Pascale S defeated Kira D 21-14.
In the boy’s competition we had 68 entries with a new champion crowned, Charlie H defeating Jordy M 3-0 in sets in the final, 21-19, 21-18, 21-10. Last year’s champion Walter J took 3rd with a 21-16 win over Dylan B in the 3rd placed play-off.
Our top 4 in both competitions received their ribbons at assembly today.
Thanks to our Year 6 House Captains who helped run two very successful competitions.
The standard of table tennis in both competitions was extremely high with the sport growing significantly at our school in recent years. This was evident at this year’s Winter Lightning Premierships where 7 of our pairs made the last 16, including two pairs making the semi-finals and one pair the Grand Finale.
This term we have our annual chess and badminton school championships taking place.

LEGO CLUB

LEGO Club was a fantastic success, with students having a ball creating, building and working together. Their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills were on full display as they brought their imaginative ideas to life.

We can’t wait for our next LEGO Club session!
