Boneo Buzz: 16th August
Dear Parents and Carers,
Next week is book week, with the theme being ‘Reading is Magic’. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite literary character. The Book Week Parade will be held during assembly on Friday 23 August so please join us if you are available. Throughout the week, classes will be reading, sharing and taking part in rich tasks based on this year’s CBCA Short Listed Books. Students will be inspired to create artwork, craft, writing pieces and take part in games… the magic of reading will be well and truly alive in our classrooms!
The Scholastic Book Fair will also be held next week in the library and will be open Monday through to Thursday after school. Students will visit the Book Fair with their class during the week.
On Monday we welcome our new Office Manager, Roxanne Elder, who has shared some information about herself below. I know Roxanne will be welcomed into our amazing learning community.
Father’s Day / Special Person’s Stall
Our annual Father’s and Special Person’s Day Stall is on Thursday 29 August. The stall is a wonderful opportunity for students to purchase a special gift for their dads, grandfathers, or other important figures in their lives. Gifts range from $2 to $15. We look forward to helping our students celebrate a very important day.
Plans for 2025 and Prep Enrolment
We are getting closer to the due date for 2025 Prep enrolments to be submitted. I would like to encourage any families who have younger siblings that will be starting school next year to please send through enrolment papers.
It is very helpful for our planning and much appreciated at this early stage, if you could advise the office if you know you will not be returning to Boneo Primary School in 2025. Workforce planning for the year ahead commences in Term 3.
Prep enrolments and information about families leaving Boneo Primary School help us plan for the overall organisation of the school in the new year.
EduTech 2024
I am so proud to share with you that our school was invited to present at EduTech this year. As the largest festival of education, EduTECH serves as a platform for 10,000+ educators and training professionals eager to embrace innovation and foster growth. Our STEM team, Antonia Scandizzo and Kieran Nolan, shared the wonderful work being done in STEM at Boneo. Congratulations to them both!
Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey
A reminder that our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.
We sent you an invitation to complete the survey via Compass on 1/8/2024.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will remain open online until Friday 30 August 2024.
Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.
The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.
Welcome Roxanne Elder
My name is Roxanne Elder and I am excited to begin my new role at Boneo Primary School.
I look forward to contributing to a positive and productive learning environment. I have been working in school administration since 2008 at a few schools on the Peninsula. I look forward to learning all about Boneo PS and its wonderful students and staff in the coming weeks!
Please feel free to pop in and introduce yourself.
Snapshot of Learning
From the STEM Room
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Digital Playhouse for loaning us 20 new laptops for our STEM space.
Over the last two weeks, the Year 1 classes have been watching the Aussie Olympians win gold in different events. Using Minecraft Education, they built something from the Olympics like a swimming pool, gold medals, or Olympic rings. They loved building on the new laptops.
STEM fun is in full swing! For bring a teddy to STEM day, the Year 2 children have continued their learning about push and pull forces, engineering a swing just the right size for their teddy using K’nex. They have also mastered designing a working car, a frisbee, and a catapult. We can’t wait to see how they keep push-ing the boundaries of learning next.
