Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of Term 3, it is hard to believe how quickly the term has passed. Looking back, there is so much to celebrate across our school.

Our students have continued to learn, grow and challenge themselves in so many ways. From the classroom to the playground, on the sporting field, in the performing arts and through the many opportunities beyond the classroom, our students have embraced new experiences and continued to show the curiosity, determination and kindness that make Boneo such a special place.

This term has also been a wonderful reminder of what we can achieve when we move together. Our staff have worked tirelessly to create rich learning opportunities and support every learner, our families have continued to partner with us, and most importantly, our students have continued to make every moment count. Our NAPLAN data has continued to improve, alongside positive growth reflected in teacher judgement and our Attitudes to School Survey data. Together, these measures provide encouraging evidence that the work we are undertaking is having a positive impact and that our school is continuing to move in the right direction.

A particular highlight of the term was our Year 6 production of Aladdin Jnr. Seeing our students perform with such confidence, enthusiasm and joy was a wonderful celebration of their talents and the many hours of work that went into bringing the production to life. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making it such a memorable experience.

A huge thank you to David for putting together such a fantastic Footy Day to finish the term! It was wonderful to see our students getting right into the spirit of the day, proudly showing their support for their favourite teams and enjoying all the different codes that make footy so much fun. The Teacher vs Year 6 match was definitely a highlight and judging by the noise from the sidelines, it was a big hit! Our staff also got into the action with the ‘Staff goal kicking’ competition, with plenty of friendly competition, varied kicking techniques and lots of laughs along the way! Congratulations to Mr Sumner and Ms Young for taking the win.

As we head into the school holidays, I hope our students enjoy some time to rest, recharge, play and spend time with the people who matter most. For our Year 6 students, it is also a reminder that there are only a few more weeks of their primary school journey remaining, something we will certainly be making the most of together.

Thank you to our wonderful Boneo staff, students and families for another terrific term. I am incredibly proud of the way our community continues to support one another and, together, keep our students at the heart of every decision.

I hope all our students, staff and families enjoy a safe, restful break and we look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 4.

School will resume on Monday 5th October.

Grounds works taking place over the holidays

We are pleased to provide you with an update regarding the upcoming refurbishment of our student toilet facilities, funded through the Capital Works Grant.

Work will commence during these school holidays and will involve both the junior and senior student toilets. This is a significant improvement to our school facilities and will provide our students with modern, accessible and improved toilet spaces.

The aim is to have the project completed by the end of this school year. While we are very excited about the improvements this project will deliver, there will understandably be some disruption while the works are underway.

We will have arrangements in place to ensure students continue to have appropriate access to toilet facilities throughout the works. Portable toilets will be available for students to use, and students will also have access to the bathroom in the First Aid Room.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undertake this important improvement to our school facilities. We look forward to seeing the finished spaces and, most importantly, providing our students with improved toilet facilities for many years to come.

Fencing works

Over the upcoming school holidays, fencing work will take place across a number of areas of the school grounds. This will include the installation of new fencing, as well as repairs and improvements to existing fencing lines.

These works form part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, secure and functional school grounds for our students and staff. Completing the works during the holidays will help minimise disruption to learning and ensure the school is ready for Term 4.

Once completed, the relevant gates will remain open throughout the school day, as well as before and after school, to ensure continued access to the school grounds and the oval as usual.

We are pleased to be able to complete these works during the holidays, helping to minimise disruption to students and learning.

Newsletters in Term 4

Based on feedback from our families, we will be trialling a move to fortnightly newsletters from the beginning of Term 4. We will seek feedback from our community at the end of the year to help us determine whether this change is working well for families and the school.

Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser

Our Sausage Sizzle fundraiser was a huge success, raising just over $600 for the school. This is a wonderful result and we are thankful for everyone’s support. A special mention to Hayden P who cooked over 320 sausages, and to Caragh M and Maddison W for their help on the day. 

Year 3 Melbourne Museum

Last Friday, our Year 3 students had a fantastic day exploring the Melbourne Museum and experiencing IMAX! It was a wonderful way to wrap up our learning about ecosystems. Students explored the fascinating environment exhibits at the museum, making connections to the ecosystems we have been investigating in class. We then headed to IMAX to enjoy an exciting 3D movie about Earth, which helped us further appreciate the amazing planet we call home. It was a fun and memorable day of learning beyond the classroom!

As part of our ecosystems unit, students have also been working collaboratively to create detailed dioramas of a chosen ecosystem. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and growing understanding of how living things interact within an ecosystem.
