Boneo Buzz 4th September
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another busy and rewarding week at Boneo Primary School, with our students continuing to embrace the many learning opportunities available throughout Term 3.
Across our classrooms, students have been busy completing a range of tasks including publishing writing pieces, developing number fluency and applying new skills and knowledge across a range of learning areas. It has been wonderful to see students building their confidence and taking pride in their learning. Learning Tasks will be available for families to view on Compass, providing an opportunity to see what your child has been learning and to gain an understanding of how they are progressing towards their learning goals.
This Sunday, we wish all of the fathers in our Boneo community a very Happy Father’s Day.
We hope our fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles and all of the special people who play an important role in the lives of our children have a wonderful day filled with love, laughter and time with the people who matter most.
We thank you for supporting, nurturing and caring for our students each day. Your contribution to the lives of our students is valued and appreciated.
Looking ahead – toilet upgrade
I am pleased to share that preliminary meetings have now taken place regarding our planned toilet upgrade. This is an exciting improvement for our school, and it has been wonderful to begin the initial planning and consultation process. We will continue to keep our community informed as the project progresses, including timelines and any changes that may impact students and families.
Being SunSmart
A reminder to all families that Boneo Primary School hats must be worn by all students from next week. In line with recommendations around UV ratings, and as we move into the warmer months, our SunSmart practices are particularly important.
Please ensure your child brings their Boneo hat to school each day. Students without an appropriate school hat will be required to remain in designated shaded areas during outdoor activities and play.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a strong commitment to student health and safety.
Reminder – Jewellery
I would also like to remind families of our school uniform policy, particularly in relation to jewellery and personal accessories. For safety reasons, students may wear simple sleepers or studs in their ears only. Jewellery such as dangling earrings and necklaces are a safety hazard and are not allowed at school. Equally, acrylic nails, hair accessories and similar items that may interfere with a student’s ability to participate safely and fully in school activities are not permitted. The Student Dress Code policy is available on our website for you to refer to.
We appreciate families’ support in ensuring students arrive at school each day in accordance with our uniform and safety expectations.
Snapshot of Learning
David Greening Takes Bronze at World Championships
Boneo Primary School is incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of one of our Boneo staff members, who recently represented Australia at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, competing in the Decathlon.
After two gruelling days of competition, significant rain delays and more than 13 hours of competition on Day 2, David secured an incredible Bronze Medal in his age group.
The Decathlon consists of 10 events, requiring athletes to demonstrate strength, speed, endurance, agility and versatility. Across the competition, he achieved an impressive six personal bests, including personal best performances in the Long Jump, Shot Put, 400m, 110m Hurdles, Pole Vault and 1500m.
Heading into the final event, the 1500m, the competition for bronze was extremely close, with four athletes still in contention. With determination and perseverance, he ran the best 1500m of his life to hold off the challengers and finish in third place overall.
This remarkable achievement follows nine months of dedicated training and hard work. While representing Australia at a World Championship was already a dream come true, standing on the podium made the experience even more special.
We were also delighted to hear that members of the Boneo community, including his son’s class, tuned in to watch his 100m event live. It was wonderful to see our school community supporting and celebrating his journey.
His achievement is a wonderful example of the importance of determination, perseverance and striving to achieve your goals.
We congratulate him on this incredible accomplishment and are very proud to have been able to share in his World Championship journey.
Congratulations on your Bronze Medal — a truly outstanding achievement!
