Boneo Buzz 20th February
Dear Parents and Carers,
School Councils play a vital role in every Victorian government school. Being a School Council member is both a rewarding and meaningful opportunity, allowing members to work closely with staff to support the best possible educational outcomes for all students. Councils are made up mainly of elected parent and staff representatives, with parents forming the majority, and are central to effective school governance. Further information can be found in link below.
Our School Council comprises of 8 parent members and 5 members from the Department of Education. This year, there are 3 parent positions and 1 DE position available for the next term on the School Council. The Annual School Council General Meeting is being held on Monday 16th March where office bearers will be elected.

Dogs in schools’ policy
A friendly reminder of the Department of Education’s Dogs in Schools Policy for Victorian government schools.
At times, schools may have approved dogs onsite to support student wellbeing, engagement and learning. These may include:
· A principal-approved school dog
· Therapy or wellbeing dogs working with trained handlers
· Assistance dogs supporting individual students or staff.
The presence of a dog at school is carefully considered and must meet strict Department guidelines to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of all students, staff and visitors.
What this means for our school:
· Any dog onsite must be formally approved by the Principal.
· A comprehensive risk assessment and management plan must be in place.
· Dogs must be appropriately trained, vaccinated, registered and supervised at all times.
· Parent consent will be sought where students are participating in structured programs involving a dog.
· Student safety, allergies, cultural considerations and wellbeing are always prioritised.
Family pets are not permitted on school grounds at any time (including before and after school), unless they are approved assistance dogs. This is in line with Department policy and helps ensure the safety and comfort of all members of our community. If you have any questions or would like to discuss individual considerations, please contact the school office.
Story Dogs at Boneo Primary School
We are delighted to continue our Story Dogs program at Boneo Primary School, which began over the last few years. Gabrielle and Tassie have become a much-loved part of our school community, supporting students in developing confidence and enjoyment in reading.
Story Dogs enables a child and a dog, with their volunteer handler, to participate in a weekly one-on-one reading session held at the child’s reading level throughout the course of the school year. Each session runs for 20 minutes and is designed to be relaxed, positive and encouraging.
The literacy program is based on the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) model, which has successfully demonstrated the educational benefits of children reading to dogs since 1999.
Story Dogs volunteers are guided to work at the child’s pace, using the calm and reassuring presence of the dog to support comprehension and build confidence. Books are carefully chosen to be fun and engaging.
We are proud to offer this wonderful program, which not only supports literacy development but also helps foster a love of reading in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Snapshot of Learning
Junior Hockey Clinic
Year 3
Year 4
This week, Year 4 students were learning about 3D objects. They used marshmallows and toothpicks to construct a range of 2D shapes and 3D objects. After constructing them, students counted the properties of each shape and drew them in their books, labelling the edges, vertices and faces before enjoying their marshmallows. Yum!
Year 6 TREC
This week for Wild Trials (TREC), all the groups had to design and dye a team T-shirt for them to wear throughout the year at competitions and for excursions.
We can’t wait for the finished design.
Wellbeing Friday
Last week our Year 6’s ran their first well-being Friday’s session.
We are incredibly proud of them!
Music- Solfege Patterns
The students have been learning about solfege patterns.
