Boneo Buzz:31st January
Dear Parent and Guardians,
On behalf of the Boneo team, we are excited to welcome students, parents and community members to the 2020 school year! We hope you have had a restful and safe summer. Our hearts and good wishes are with those who continue to fight these devastating fires. Our passionate young people have already started to support communities in need. William Beckett initiated our icypole days and was highlighted in the Leader for his fundraising efforts. We have had a very smooth start to the school year with all 350 students settling quickly into their new classes. I look forward to working with each of you during the upcoming school year.
We’ve had a lot of work completed over the holidays to ensure our students have access to the best facilities possible. Extensive painting occurred across the school which incorporated the external and internal main building, the art room and all portable doors. The two major playground equipment zones have been upgraded with new soft fall mulch, thereby heightening safety for any students using the equipment. Plumbing occurred to upgrade the septic system and repair of the portable roves was completed. Additionally, hand dryers were replaced in student toilets. New basketball backboards were installed, and extensive line marking was undertaken to provide interesting play options for students.
$190 000 Grant
I am thrilled to announce that whilst we were unsuccessful with our Inclusive Schools Grant application, Chris Brayne MP visited yesterday to say we have received the $190 000 funds to build our outdoor play and learning space. This is exciting news for our community. As you can see from the attached plans we will have a stunning learning space for our children. Your continued fundraising efforts will also see the completion of our outdoor kitchen classroom. 2020 will see the transformation of our outdoor learning spaces.
We have a very busy term ahead as we begin to forge the new learning programs and routines for our students. As part of our commitment to offer more opportunities for parents to connect and learn about the curriculum, we look forward to welcoming parents to Information sessions. These are designed to outline the new Inquiry, Spelling and Mathematics programs that will be in place at each level. To support parents to attend these important meetings we will be providing a movie for all students and repeat sessions for parents with multiple children. Parents select the session they wish to attend.

There is plenty of evidence that shows positive communication between parents and teachers helps improve wellbeing and academic outcomes. Therefore ongoing communication with your child’s teacher is essential to make sure we can tailor our approach to your child’s needs. In Week 9, parents will also be invited to Parent Teacher meetings to discuss their child’s progress.
