Boneo Buzz:13th December
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Over the last two days, I have been supporting the current Year 6 Leaders to interview and select the 2020 Year 6 Leadership team. Through this process they shared their thoughts about leadership. The following captures student reflections.
‘It is about motivating, influencing and directing people so that they work together to achieve the goals of a team. Leadership is a quality that all students at Boneo Primary School are encouraged to develop.’
Students from Prep to Year 6 take on the role of leaders of their own learning. Through the curriculum and extra curricula activities, all students are encouraged to develop the skills necessary to be a leader. This ensures that all students perceive themselves as leaders and have the opportunity and confidence to take on leadership roles. Student leadership roles challenge individuals to develop a sense of vision and purpose as they take on responsibilities and use decision making skills in order to carry a project through to a successful conclusion. Our students develop interpersonal skills including communication, negotiation, team work and reflection.
Our passion to empower students to drive this process is obviously having an impact; 42 of our 46 Year 5 students applied for the following roles:
- School Captains
- Buddy Liaison Leaders
- Music Leaders
- Art Leaders
- Library Leaders,
- SPARK Leaders (STEM)
- Environment Leaders.
- House Leaders will be voted by students in Years 4 to 6 from their respective House next Tuesday.
- Junior School Council (JSC) representatives Prep to Year 6 will be decided at the start of 2020
We congratulate the following students on their appointment today, and look forward to announcing the House Leaders next week and JSC in 2020.

Snapshot of Learning this Week
Win at the Fair
Last week, we did a big problem solving activity called Win At The Fair. So, we had to pretend to organise a fundraiser for the school. Each person has to pay $1 to play the game. You roll two dice and move across the board depending on the total of the dice you roll. The aim of the game is to make it profitable for the school. Our aim was to make the game only pay out more than $1, 40% of the time to make sure the school made money.
So our first game board had the chance to win $5000. We did this to encourage people to play our fundraising game. We realised that heaps of people were getting paid too much and this didn’t work.
Our second game board, we change the value of the prices and the direction you had to move for each roll.
To check if our game board worked, we played it 10 times and recorded our profit. Then you could enter it into a computer program and it would show you how much profit you would make after 1000 turns.
I thought it was interesting and fun and I liked the challenge of trying to make the best game board.
