Boneo Buzz: 5th March

 Dear Parents and Carers,

Save these dates:

  • House Athletics Prep to Year 6 – Wednesday 31st March – on the oval

Be Safe Online

As we settle back into routine it is timely to remind parents to be hyper vigilant and know what children are doing online. Research shows 81% of parents hand their child an internet-connected device by the age of 4, so active parental engagement and oversight of a child’s online activities is critical from the start, to help ensure they are prepared for what they may encounter. As young people often do not have the maturity or judgement to cope with confronting content online, it’s important to guide and instill critical reasoning skills, so that they are aware not everything they see or receive online is safe or real.

We encourage parents to co-view, co-play, ask questions about the games and apps children are using, and to let them know you are there to support them if they are upset or uncomfortable about anything they see online.

Five top tips to help limit your child’s exposure to harmful content online:

  • Engage in your child’s online activities – ask what apps, sites and games they’re using and make sure they’re age-appropriate
  • Use parental controls on devices to help limit what your child is exposed to
  • Let your child know not everything they see online is real or true.
  • Help children report and block upsetting content they see on social media sites or apps.
  • Let your child know that they can come to you about anything upsetting they see online, and to contact Kids Helpline if they need further support.
  • Keep devices out of bedrooms.

We encourage parents to visit www.esafety.gov.au/iparent for information and advice to keep your child safe online.

Ski Camp Extra Co-curricular opportunity

We are excited to once again offer a snowboarding/skiing co-curricular opportunity for students in Years 4 to 6. This is a combined Tootgarook/Boneo Primary School camp. The camp will be held on Sunday August 15th to Friday August 20th, at the VSL Ski Club, Mt. Buller. We are able to take up to 25 people.                .

The approximate cost will be around $1100. We are still waiting on some final costing but aim to keep it as close as possible to previous years.

This price includes:

  • travel, transfer costs, entrance onto the mountain, accommodation, all meals on the mountain, equipment hire, ski lift tickets, lessons Monday to Friday, 5 full days of skiing
  • all parents attending pay to go at the children’s rate

Next week, we will be asking for a deposit to secure a place on the camp. Please contact me if you need more details.

Intention to Enrol

If you have a child starting Prep in 2022, please come to the office to complete an ‘Intention to Enrol’ form.

It is vital that we have an accurate count of the number of siblings commencing next year to ensure we remain within our enrolment cap.

Here is the link to the form if you wish to download a copy;

Please complete this process prior to the end of Term 1.

Family, Food & Fun Night

Preparations are well underway as we prepare for next week’s FF&FN. A big thank you to the wonderful team of volunteers who have generously volunteered their time to support this event. Fundraising is vital for us to continue providing our students with the very best learning opportunities. Proceeds from our 2021 FFFN will be used for the addition of a pizza oven in our newly constructed outdoor kitchen.

Rosters have been placed in all classrooms. Shifts are only 30 minutes in duration, giving families plenty of time to enjoy the festivities.

Next Friday, will be a ‘Free Dress’ day. We are inviting families to donate a small item that may be used as lucky dip prizes on the night.

We are incredibly thankful to the following organisations for their generous support of our school;
