Boneo Buzz: 30th April

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It was wonderful to have so many grandparents and special friends join us last week to commemorate ANZAC Day. Once again this event highlighted the need for a purpose-built undercover area where our community can connect regardless of the weather conditions. I am excited to announce that Haskell Architects have been appointed to manage this project. This morning, the architect attended onsite to begin planning; construction is expected to begin later this term. Additionally, we eagerly await the completion of our new garden and redesigned entry to the school, expected to be completed in 3 weeks.

School Review

Government schools undertake a review every four years. Our school review will take place in Term 4 this year. The school review is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the school’s achievements over the past four years and to determine the future direction for the next four year period. Students, parents and teaching staff will have an integral role in the School Self-Evaluation process which will begin in Term 3. In coming weeks, we will be asking all parents to complete a short online survey that we will use to support the pre-evaluation.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) will take place for Years 3 and 5 students on Tuesday 11th May, Wednesday 12th May and Thursday 13th May. Thank you in anticipation for your support to ensure all children have this opportunity. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Snapshot of Learning

Year 2 Scienceworks Excursion

On Tuesday, all of the Year 2s went to Scienceworks in Melbourne. It was exquisite! First we went into a room which had moving walls and it seemed like I was going upside down! Then we went into the Lightning Room where we made a cloud and we also got to see lightning. It was VERY Loud. I unblocked my ears and it was the loudest thing that I have ever heard! Next, we went in a disco room. I pressed buttons to make my own patterns appear on the roof. It was amazing! By Willow 2A

On Tuesday morning the Year 2s left for our excursion to Scienceworks. We all got on the bus and soon arrived in the city. First, we had a snack and then we watched a lightning show. We saw real lightning. It was so loud! Then I designed 2 robots. Scienceworks was incredible. By Lana 2B

At Scienceworks, I saw C-3PO, cars of the future, the inside of the International Space Station, lightning and robots. During the lightning show, I felt a little scared when I saw the lightning. I was amazed to find out that thunder echoes off the hills and clouds and it isn’t just from hitting the ground. My favourite part was seeing inside the International Space Station, I felt so dizzy but it was cool! I have so many wonderings about space that I can’t WAIT to investigate them during my Inquiry time. By Henry 2C

Year 4 SAKG

This afternoon, the Year 4 students participated in three workshops as part of SAKG. Students recorded the recipe for the upcoming cooking lesson, identified bush tucker in the Wetlands and investigated measurement in the kitchen garden.
The kitchen gardens are needing urgent refreshment and our new season produce is yet to be planted. So, students were required to determine how much space we have for particular vegetables to grow to their potential. They used flexible measuring tape to record and calculate the area and perimeter of various plots. Now students can investigate the plants that grow in autumn for a winter harvest.
