Boneo Buzz: 2nd September

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a Week!

We have had such a wonderful week celebrating Book Week and preparing for Father’s Day. A huge thank you to Amanda and Stella for purchasing all the Father’s Day goodies and our volunteers who helped out at the Father’s Day stall. The children loved finding something special for the significant males in their lives.

This week, we received our Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN results and are just thrilled. Of particular note:

  • Year 3 Reading – 65% of our students are in the top 2 bands above State
  • Year 3 Writing – 49% of our students are in the top 2 bands above State
  • Year 3 Grammar and Punctuation – 52% of our students are in the top 2 bands and above State
  • Year 5 Reading – 53% of our students are in the top 2 bands above State
  • Year 5 Numeracy, Spelling and Grammar are above Network in the top 2 bands

A huge congratulations to our staff for their relentless efforts to personalise the learning for every child. Our parents for the at home support with learning and ultimately our dedicated students for embracing challenge.

If you have not already done so, please complete the Parent Opinion Survey that I will resend today. Your opinion matters to us.

Snapshot of Learning

 Year 4 – Writing

The Year 4’s have been exploring different persuasive text types from letters to advertisements, reviews and travel brochures. As part of their exploration, the students were involved in a class debate where they created scripts to support their opinion in the game of ‘Would you Rather?’ It was an entertaining experience, where the students were very creative in writing their arguments and rebuttals.

We have included an example from Ivy and Mason and an amazing persuasive piece written by Charlotte, we all agree that her parents SHOULD take a vacation!

We would also like to celebrate Zoe E for her successful winning entry in the Farrells Bookshop 2022 Kids’s Writing Competition, entitled ‘Fly’. Congratulations!

Book Week – 3A

In 3A many stories were represented, from classics such as Alice in Wonderland and Paddington Bear, horror, social issues (Auggie from ‘Wonder’), comedies (The Day the Crayons Quit & Treehouse tales), modern magicians, sporting talents in inspiring biographies, Billie B Brown(s) and other well known fiction by popular authors (Roald Dahl). The adults joined in the fun, dressing as Princess Fiona (Shrek) and the seal from environmental story ‘Saving Seal’.
Our class had a fabulous celebration of CBCA nominated stories throughout the week – especially enjoying those that added to our growing understanding of sustainability and our role in caring for earth.
