Boneo Buzz: 22nd November

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am excited to announce that we have been successful in our grant application through the Government Shade Grant Program. We have received $24,700 to purchase shade sails for our new outdoor kitchen. Don’t forget to let us know if you are able to assist at our working bee on Friday 13th December where we will prepare the area ready for our new outdoor kitchen.

Uniform Update

Our school uniform is a visual representation of the standards expected of students and plays an important role in promoting a positive image of our school. Our uniform aims to support all students to participate fully in school life and help create a sense of identity and a school culture in which every student experiences a sense of belonging. All students are easily recognisable as belonging to our school and are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities.

Following discussions at School Council we have decided to offer a black sport short for girls and boys to wear with the Boneo Primary School polo shirt. The $20 shorts can be purchased from Advanced Promotional Clothing.

Microfibre Sport Shorts

Water Repellent, soft finish and no inside lining. Two side pockets, hidden security pocket for key and MP3 player. All seams are safety stitched, double stitched hem, elastic waist. Draw Cord on inside.

Human Powered Vehicle

On Wednesday, 14 students from Years 5 and 6, and their parents, headed to Maryborough to compete in the Energy Breakthrough HPV competition. Despite the wind, broken tents and damaged displays; our teams rallied, made repairs and started the competition. We have some pictures of Stage 1- Thursday’s scrutineering, design and presentations. The children are doing a fabulous job, ably supported by their fantastic parents and teachers. This morning, the 2 teams participated in the obstacle course and time trials. I know you will join me in wishing our children the best of luck for the eight hour endurance race tomorrow. If you want to follow our progress, head to the website for updates. https://www.eb.org.au/

Junior School Athletics Carnival

The Junior School Athletics Carnival was held today on the oval. The students participated in a range of track and field events throughout the morning.

There was a wonderful atmosphere with all students proudly displaying their house colours (and some parents too!), giving all activities a go and supporting each other.

Our thanks to the staff, parents and the students for making the day so enjoyable. Congratulations all on a wonderful athletics event.

Snapshot of Learning this Week

Dolphin Research Institute – ‘i Sea, i Care’ Program

Yesterday, the Boneo Primary School ‘i Sea i Care’ ambassadors enjoyed a morning ‘bush tucker’ walk with Lionel Lauch from Indigenous Cultures. Students learnt about the medicinal properties of local flora along the coast in Crib Point.

Afterwards, Lionel delivered an interesting workshop where he explained and demonstrated the tools and instruments used by the local indigenous people on the Mornington Peninsula.

Year 5 Rosebud Secondary College Discovery Day

The Grade 5 year level was full of excitement as they attended the Rosebud Secondary College Discovery Day on Thursday.

It was a fun filled day of exploration and an insight into life at Secondary School.

The day began with a dance off, with our beautiful Year 5 boys competing against local schools, taking it out with a dedicated ‘hype’ and the ‘worm’.

Our day continued with Physical Education, a rotation of sports that involved participating in different cultural sport activities.

Next, involved a visit to the dark room. The students manipulated different aspects of a photograph and learnt the old school way of processing a photo from a negative.

When told they had English next, the Year 5 students groaned with fear, ENGLISH! To their surprise, it was their favourite class throughout the day. They dived into a world of Viking poetry, playing with language features that made words come together in an exciting way.

Our day finished the best way possible, with a BBQ, shared with the other schools. It’s fair to say that discovering Rosebud Secondary College was a highlight of

Term 4.
