Boneo Buzz: 1st November
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last night, Alex, Taye and Alistair represented Boneo Primary School in the Lions Club Quiz Finals. We competed against Sorrento Primary School, Rye Primary School and Red Hill Consolidated School. We are extremely proud to announce that Boneo Primary School is the 2019 Lions Club Quiz champions. I know you join with me in congratulating our talented students and dedicated teachers Ms Pittard and Mr Pollett.
Portable Upgrades
Last term, we needed to access emergency make-safe works at our school following storms. The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) has been carefully assessing the requirements for reinstatement works. As part of this process, the VSBA have received a detailed report and request for support. Upon review of the information we lodged, I am excited to announce that the VSBA will now undertake the repair of our portable classrooms.
The works will include the following:
- Clean and re-seal exhaust penetration.
- Replace box guttering
- Modify downpipe connections to engage with guttering
- Repair condenser unit insulated lines and flashing seals
- Remove and replace roof sheets that have rusted out
- Remove and replace deteriorated soaker flashing
This is a fabulous outcome for our school.
Oaks Day
Our Oaks Day is almost here and we have a few last minute reminders for those joining us on the day.
*Please ensure all dietary requirements have been recorded with the office before Cup Day.
*Don’t forget to bring your ticket with you to enter the Door Prize draw.
*EFT will be available for all auction purchases on the day, but it is a good idea to have small denomination cash for raffle draws and sweeps.
* Mr Cooper’s Shuttle Service will be available to transport guests to the ‘Old Apple Shed’ at the conclusion of our day.
* Don’t forget to capture your red carpet arrival. We will have staff available to snap your group, using your own device.
The National is hosting us from 11.30am with the day concluding at 5pm. This is a change on previous years, allowing us to see the running of the Oaks.
If there are any last minute ticket requirements, please contact the office immediately. All numbers are to be locked in by Wednesday.
This is a wonderful event, a true celebration of our school and extended community. We hope you all enjoy the day, and are looking forward to catching up with our ‘Oak’s Day veterans’ and also welcoming first time guests.
Our committee have done an incredible job coordinating the day, with some amazing auction offerings. To Danielle McPherson, Lauren Johansson, Natasha Lee and Kristen Black our sincere gratitude for your commitment and enthusiasm to ensuring the success of this event.
To our volunteer ‘bookies’, Rob Nigro and Warren Gray, we thank you for supporting Mr Jellie on the day. We also welcome our School Council Vice President, Adam Alexander of Hocking Stuart Rosebud/Dromana, as our auctioneer for Oaks Day 2019.
Our fingers are crossed for a record fundraising result!
To all supporters of this event we truly appreciate your incredible generosity. Please see more of our sponsors listed later in this edition of the Buzz.
A special thank you to our major sponsors;
We also wish to acknowledge McPherson Bricklaying for sponsoring the Lolly Buffet and Zarb & Ru for adding an extra treat to our guest gift.
Snapshot of Learning this Week
Technologies with 2A
It is wonderful to see the impact our Monash University Engineer student, Akash, is having on learning. Through the ‘Adopt and Engineer’ program we are excited by the depth of understanding and knowledge evident in our students.
This week, we have been visiting the SPARK Centre. First we went to the DT space. Then Akash taught us how to use a 3D printer. STEP 1 – Put the filament in. STEP 2 – Get a computer and go to TinkerCad and type in your class code. You can get a private screen. STEP 3 – Make a 3D design. STEP 4 – Press print and a couple of hours and you will have your design.
Then Akash taught us how a Mars Rover works. It has three wheels and they go up and down. Technologies is really exciting!

On Thursday, Boneo Primary School learnt about 3D models. We used a program called TinkerCad. Next session we are going to print our models.
It is really cool to make and do new things!
