Boneo Buzz: 19th February

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Well, that was a week that none of us wanted. When I wrote to you last week, little did any of us know what was around the corner! Once again, we found ourselves managing a very sudden return to remote learning.

I know we all prove time and time again how flexible we can be. Staff, students and parents have demonstrated extraordinary resilience, working hard together to deliver an educational program. I want to thank you for the lovely feedback we have received from our families.

We appreciated the relaxed approach that was taken by the school. It helped to fend off any anxieties the kids may have had after last year.

We’re glad it was only a few days but grateful to Boneo for the prompt, appropriate and effective delivery of ongoing education at such short notice. It is reassuring to know what to expect if there are any further lockdowns.

Thank you for your ongoing efforts. Both of the girls are thriving and I’m sure their experiences will only serve to help them become more proactive and resilient.’

We’re all delighted to welcome students back and see school programs return to normal after only three days of disruption. Our staff used the lockdown to review the 2020 feedback from students and parents to craft a comprehensive plan for any potential future lockdown.

We have a ‘snap adaptive approach’ to weekly program planning so that we can support students and parents with comprehensive remote teaching and learning at short notice. Our plan will focus on small group and one on one explicit teaching for all students because we know this was the most effective last year.

In 2021, wellbeing will be a focus whether students are onsite or working remotely. We want to reconnect our community. The following is a snapshot of just some of our plans.

Friday Share Assemblies will now be first thing in the morning at 9am to make it more convenient for parents to attend. The Share Assembly roster for Term 1 is:

Week 5

5B Mr Pollett

Week 6

4A Ms Scott

Week 7

4B Ms Sykes

Week 8

5A Miss Young

Week 9

4C Miss Raven

Week 10

2A Mrs Barnett

  • Every Friday afternoon all students will gather in multi-age groups to ‘get active’ and finish the week having fun together. This will be led by our newly established Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders.
  • A monthly special lunch starting next Friday.
  • All year levels rostered to use our new outdoor kitchen with parents invited to join us.
  • A community event each term. This term, our Family Food and Fun Night – Friday 12th March will be a chance to celebrate the start of 2021.

Boneo Community Group and School Council

Members of School Council are keen to establish a Boneo Community Group (P&F) where interested parents, carers and friends can come together to support our school to plan events and consider programs that will continue to enrich the educational experience of our students. We hope to have many more opportunities this year to meet as a community, network with parents and carers and have interested families become involved in school decision making. School Council is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to be directly involved in the school.

An annual election is to be conducted for members of the school council of Boneo Primary School. In 2021, we have 5 parent vacancies and 2 DET vacancies on School Council for a full period of two years. We need 4 more parent nominations.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the school and must now be lodged by 4pm Wednesday 24 February 2021.

Reminders for a busy Week 5

  • Wednesday is Lucky Jar day. All children come in casual clothes and bring a lucky jar ready for the Family Food and Fun Night.

Lucky Jars

On Wednesday 24th February, students are invited to wear free dress (not school uniform) in exchange for donating a Lucky Jar. The jar should be filled with something that would appeal to children. Some ideas for jar fillers are; small toys, stationery, coins, hair ties, marbles etc.

Lollies are acceptable but please make sure that they are in individual wrappers or place the unopened packet in the jar (this is for health reasons). The jar may be of any size from a large coffee jar to a jam jar.

The jars are then sold on a lucky dip system at our FFFN for $2.

Boneo Farewells Mr Cooper

It was wonderful to host the Boneo community last week to celebrate the amazing contribution Gary Cooper has made to our school over 36 years of service. The students and staff, both past and present, and many families attended our assembly to farewell the Cooper family in style.

We wish Cheryl and Gary all the very best as they prepare for future adventures.
