Boneo Buzz: 17th April
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Without question, this has been one of the most unpredictable times I have ever experienced. I want to recognise your extraordinary efforts to accept and adapt to the change thrust upon us. We need to approach this with a level-head and collective calm. We all have different coping mechanisms and deal with adversity in different ways. Continue to support each other, speak up and ask for help but most of all continue to be adaptable, courageous and resilient as I know the Boneo community can.
It has and will continue to be weeks of adjustment and I want to wholeheartedly thank you for diving in and for your passion to ensure quality learning is available for our children. They will need us, and we will need each other more now than ever before.
ANZAC Day Assembly
The Boneo community have always placed great importance on commemorating this significant day. Please click on the below hyperlinks for information. Due to the global outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the Australian Government has cancelled overseas Anzac Day ceremonies for 2020. The Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial will be broadcast live; however, will not be open for public attendance.
Follow Government health advice when considering your commemoration options for Anzac Day.
Here are some ideas for making personal commemorations.
What you can do!
On Monday 27th April, at 2:30, we ask all families to click on our ANZAC Assembly video link, which we will share on the day. To engage our community in this service, we ask all families to participate in an Art project organised by Mr Dalton.
Watch this gorgeous YouTube clip of a father and daughter learning how to draw a poppy.
Have a go as a family, take a photograph with family members in the picture and send the image to boneo.ps@edmail.vic.gov.au so we can include your family in the presentation.
Lest We Forget.
Communicating with your child
We encourage you to start and finish each day with a simple check-in. These check-ins need to be a regular part of each day.
Not all students thrive in a remote learning environment; some children struggle with too much independence or lack of structure and the check-ins help keep them on track.
In the morning, ask:
- Let’s look at what you are learning today?
- What are your learning targets or goals?
- How will you be spending your time today? Have a daily plan.
- What resources do you require?
- What support do you need?
In the afternoon, ask:
- What did you learn today?
- Acknowledge one thing that was difficult. Either let it go or come up with a strategy to deal with the same problem if it comes up again.
- Consider three things that went well today. Why were they good?
- Do you need to ask your teacher for something? Do you need help with something to make tomorrow more successful?
These specific questions matter because they allow your child to process the instructions they have received from their teachers and will help them organise themselves and set priorities. Older students may not want to have these check-ins with parents (this is normal!), but they should anyway.
Lesson Plans, Class Pages and Resources
This week, families have successfully accessed the Class Page on Compass and found the ‘Lesson Plan’ and ‘Class News Feed’ where the Zoom link is posted.
On the Class Page, you will also find the ‘Resources’ tab along the top toolbar. This tab will allow you to access:
- Lesson plans from previous sessions or days
- Videos
- Specialist (Art, Music, P.E and STEM) lessons
The following instructions will guide you through how to locate and use the ‘Resources’ tab. Each fortnight the Specialist teachers will have a scheduled Zoom lesson but they will upload two weeks of learning for the children which can be accessed in the Resources tab at any time.
Please note: to access videos you will need to access Compass from a PC or Laptop
Week 1 Remote Learning Feedback
To ensure we meet the needs of our community and continue to improve our Remote Learning program we invite you, our parents, to share any feedback that you feel is important. Please click on this link to let us know your thoughts: Remote Learning Feedback Form
