Boneo Buzz: 15th November

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Outdoor Kitchen Construction

We are really excited to begin construction of our outdoor kitchen and classroom. This is going to be a magnificent addition to our facilities. The generosity of our community, through the support of the Colour Run means we have the necessary funds to begin. In order to bring our vision to fruition we are seeking the following support:

·         Plumber

·         Pizza oven builder

·         Cabinet maker

·         Landscaper/paver

On Friday 13 December at 3:30pm, we need 5 or 6 family volunteers to assist at a working bee to clear the area in preparation for construction. It should take an hour or so and then a couple of trips to the tip.

Tools we will need:

·         Chainsaws

·         Rakes

·         Shovels

·         Trailers

·         Wheelbarrows

·         Crowbars

·         Hammers

·         Jimmy bars

If you are able to assist in any way, please call the office or email: boneo.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au

Human Powered Vehicle

On Monday at Assembly, we will unveil our two new vehicles heading to Maryborough on Wednesday for the Energy Breakthrough Human Powered Vehicle competition. Since 1991, the Energy Breakthrough has provided opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle that will represent an ‘energy breakthrough’.

The program is unique in that all teams must compete across three areas of assessment: Design and Construction, Display and Presentation and Trials. The Energy Breakthrough isn’t just a once a year event. Our team of 14 students and Mr Tom Pollett, have worked throughout the year to design, build and test our machines within detailed specifications.

The program encourages participants to examine and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment and the way people live locally and globally.  It requires a team effort and an across the curriculum approach. Boneo students have authentically been immersed in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning through this project.  Once again, participation in this event would not be possible without the support of our amazing families. A huge thank you to the following parents:

·         Aaron Simmons for organising the vinyl wrap of our vehicles, new high performance wheels and tagging of our electrical equipment.

·         Bennett Family for obtaining sponsorship support of $950

·         Emmett Forde for the vehicle fibre glass repair

·         Duane Pittock for the mechanical repairs

·         Paul Waters for organising the donation of Bosch computers used at the event to track the times

We wish our team every success and I want to thank in advance our teachers, Mr Pollett and Ms Downward and the parents who will be supporting our team over the grueling 4 day event.

Remembrance Day

On Monday, l attended the Rosebud RSL with a group of Year 6 students, for their Remembrance Day service.

Each year on Remembrance Day, the RSL present their Ronald Bollard Memorial Scholarships to local primary and secondary school students.

These scholarships come with a bursary that is provided to support Year 6 students as they transition to secondary school.

Congratulations to Tarme, Taye, Jasper and Nathaniel on being nominated to receive the 2019 Ronald Bollard Memorial Scholarships.

Snapshot of Learning this Week

Boneo Camp Program

Boneo Primary School is proud of its ongoing commitment to our camping program. Camps provide students with opportunities to develop independence, resilience, relationships and social skills in an environment that is external to their regular academic program. During these extra curricular opportunities, we see children develop their strengths, skills and special talents alongside opportunities to take on new challenges.

Year 2 students are introduced to the camp experience with a one night ‘Sleepover’ at school.

Last night the Year 2 students and staff spent the night at school. The ‘campers’ enjoyed all of the usual camp activities in the familiar surrounds of the school environment. We hope the students enjoyed their sleepover and trip to the cinema.

The Year 5 students and staff have ventured to the city this week for five action packed days on Urban Camp. We look forward to hearing all about their city adventure in next week’s Boneo Buzz.
