Boneo Buzz: 15th May
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been months since the world paused and everything changed. All of us are adjusting because we still don’t know what ‘normal’ looks like and probably won’t for some time. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the importance of establishing routine. I rely heavily on routine and establish ways to keep my brain focused especially when things are stressful.
As our students and staff transition back to school and many of our parents start to head back to work, it is important to build a new sense of routine when things will look a bit different or new. It is like starting a new job – you don’t know what to expect, how people are going to act, what the norms will be or how we are supposed to behave. Don’t worry, everyone is feeling a sense of excitement, tinged with uncertainty or caution and that’s normal as we all try to find a new normal. Our community will rally, work together to shape our new normal for the coming months. I will not remember this time for what we have lost but for what we have gained. I ask all of our community to consider framing their thinking in this way.
The Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised that the risk is very low, but continue to advise caution, particularly in relation to adults and more vulnerable members of our school community. Everyone in our community has a role to play in protecting themselves and keeping the spread of coronavirus suppressed.
The following guidance provides some sensible steps that we can take to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission and provide a safe working and learning environment for our staff and students.
Hygiene
All students will be guided in regular hand-washing-not just after toilet breaks but before and after recess and lunch breaks, too. Soap dispensers will be available in every area.
ALL STUDENTS need to bring their own hand sanitizer for their desk. Please label the small bottle. Hand sanitiser will also be available in all classrooms, at the front desk and in the staff room.
Students will not drink directly from drinking fountains at this time. Instead, ALL STUDENTS should bring their own water bottle, clearly labelled for use (and refilling) at school.
Enhanced cleaning, including cleaning throughout the day of high-touch surfaces such as bathrooms and door handles.
Physical Distancing
The school workforce will be supported to practice physical distancing, but physical distancing is not necessary between students in the school setting. We ask all parents to utilise the oval parking and adhere to social distancing guidelines. We will communicate further guidelines next week.
Health
Anyone who feels unwell should not attend school, including staff and students.
As the main risk of introducing coronavirus (COVID-19) to the school environment is from adults, close proximity between adult members of the school community should be avoided, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up.
Staff and parents are to observe physical distancing measures by not congregating in areas inside or around the school.
Staged Return for Students
The staged return will be as follows:
