Boneo Buzz: 15th December

Dear Parents and Carers,

On behalf of our staff and students, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for your enthusiastic participation in the End-of-Year Celebration Picnic held Tuesday evening. Your presence truly added warmth and joy to the event despite the sweltering heat.

Our students’ outstanding performances were the highlight of the evening, showcasing their talents, dedication, and the incredible progress they have made throughout the year. It was heartening to witness the sense of accomplishment and pride on their faces as they shared their talents with the community. Our graduating Year 6 students loved every moment.

A special note of gratitude goes to Mr. Andrew Doodson (Theo’s Dad) for his generous contribution to the school. The upgrade to our sound system, connecting the outdoor speakers, significantly enhanced the overall experience, ensuring that everyone could enjoy the performances to the fullest. Your support has made a lasting impact on our school community, and we are truly grateful.

I would also like to extend my deepest appreciation to Ms. Libby Sison and Ms Jen Scott for their exceptional efforts in coordinating the performances along with our staff who supported their classes. Their dedication and hard work were evident in the seamless execution of the evening’s program, allowing our students to shine on stage.

The evening kicked off on a high note with a stellar performance by the Band, composed of our Graduating Year 6 students. Their musical talents captivated the audience and set the tone for a memorable night. We are immensely proud of the accomplishments of our graduating students and look forward to seeing them excel in their future musical endeavours.

Finally, a huge thank you to our dedicated School Council members who tirelessly ran the sausage sizzle on the night. Your commitment to the school community and willingness to go the extra mile did not go unnoticed, and the delicious sausages added to the festive atmosphere of the event.

Step Up Day

As our students entered the school premises, it was evident that many were experiencing a blend of nervous anticipation and curiosity. However, as the day unfolded, it was heartening to witness this initial nervous energy transform into genuine excitement and enthusiasm. This special day allowed our students to embrace the anticipation and excitement of meeting their new teachers and getting a chance to experience their classes for the 2024 academic year.

Step Up Day plays a crucial role in our transition process, ensuring that students enter the new academic year feeling confident and familiar with their surroundings. The event provides a comfortable and friendly environment for students to forge connections with their new teachers and fellow classmates. We understand that change can be both thrilling and a bit nerve-wracking and Step-Up Day aims to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Parents, thank you for entrusting us with the growth and development of your children. If you have any further questions or if there are ways, we can further support this transition, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Reports

To provide you with clearer insights into your child’s academic progress, you will notice our specialist staff have trailed a new reporting format using ‘I can’ outcome statements aligned with the Victorian curriculum. Students have been assessed against a 5-point scale using a tick box system. This approach aims to offer a more comprehensive and visual representation of your child’s achievements across various areas of the curriculum. We highly value your input, and in the spirit of continuous improvement, we will be seeking your feedback early in the new year. Our goal is to make the reports more accessible and easier for parents to gauge the academic level of their children. We understand that your time is valuable, and we want to ensure that the reporting system is both informative and user-friendly. We feel the current report is too text heavy. Please mark your calendar for Monday at 4 PM to access your child’s semester reports through our COMPASS portal.

Reminder

Join us for our final 2023 Assembly on Wednesday at 12:30 on the Basketball Court. The children will be dismissed at 1:15. The Cape Schank bus will not be available.

The school was buzzing with excitement on Step-Up Day where students and staff met their classes and teachers for the 2024 year! It was wonderful seeing the students settle in to their new environment and for us to meet our future Preps and new students!
