Boneo Buzz: 12th February

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been lovely over the past week to meet many of our school families, carers and friends at morning drop off and afternoon pick up; a school filled with happy people is a wonderful place to be! In particular, we have enjoyed seeing our Foundation students, dressed smartly in their new uniforms walking confidently to their classrooms with school bags almost as big as the children!

Feedback from our families and teachers is that the start of the year has been incredibly smooth and positive. Our commitment to ensuring class time in the first few weeks focuses specifically on creating a school-wide approach to inclusion, support and calmness where there are clear expectations for all, will assist us to maintain a positive climate for learning.

Members of School Council are keen to establish a Boneo Community Group (P&F) where interested parents, carers and friends can come together to support our school to plan events and consider programs that will continue to enrich the educational experience of our students. We hope to have many more opportunities this year to meet as a community, network with parents and carers and have interested families become involved in school decision making. School Council is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to be directly involved in the school. An annual election is to be conducted for members of the school council of Boneo Primary School. In 2021, we have 5 parent vacancies and 2 DET vacancies on School Council for a full period of two years.

Following the closing of nominations, a list of the nominations received will be posted at the school and a ballot process conducted if needed.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the school and must be lodged by 4pm 19th February 2021.

Road Safety

The safety of all our community members is an absolute priority for us at BPS, as such, it is pleasing to see so many families using our designated areas for drop off and pick up. I ask all parents to follow the council directed traffic flow system for drop off and pick up outlined below:

  • On the tennis court side of the school enter via Boneo Road and exit at Truemans Road We have a one-way traffic system.
  • Only park in allocated spaces. I am concerned to see double parking and blocking of the driveway near the tennis court. Please do not create your own parking bay – it is unsafe.
  • Keep the handicap parking bays free for those who need this space.
  • Please do not park near the collection bins and designated bus pick up on Truemans Road. This is a legal requirement and the shire will be enforcing this.

Research indicates that before the age of 11 years, children are unable to judge the speed of oncoming cars and this increases their risk of injury when crossing. Think of these guidelines as a pro-active approach to helping our child stay safe around traffic.

Parent Information Evening

Staff were thrilled to have so many parents join their Zoom information sessions this week. Parents can expect a Compass post with links to every year level session so that you can watch these at a convenient time.

Privacy Collection Statement

Our school values the privacy of every person. When collecting and managing personal and health information, all school staff must comply with Victorian privacy law. For more information about privacy including about how to access personal and health information held by the school about you or your child, see our school’s privacy policy which can be found at the bottom of the page on our website.

It’s a Girl!

We are very excited to announce the safe arrival of ‘Baby Dalton’ this week.

Congratulations to Pat, Sarah and big brothers, Oak and Ned, on the birth of their baby girl.

Student Reading Conferences

Over the coming weeks you will receive an email notification from Compass alerting you that your child has just completed a Reading Conference with their teacher.

This reading conference is recorded in Compass as a Learning Task. Accessing this (as per attached instructions) will allow you to see the feedback your child has received about their reading as well as the reading goal they are working towards and the strategies they can use to achieve their goal. Please take the time to read this feedback as it will support you as you read with your child at home.
