Boneo Buzz: 11th October
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to Term 4.
I am excited to announce that we have received one of the five grant applications submitted in Term 3. Only four to go!
The Bendigo Bank have sponsored Boneo Primary School to the value of $17880 to purchase new laptops for classes.
Today we welcomed Cat Lacey, an additional Chaplain for the remainder of the year. Cat will work on a Friday, with Josh working on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Cat has prepared a short paragraph of introduction.
I’m so excited to be working on Fridays as a Chaplain at Boneo PS. I have a deep passion to see young people thrive and find their passions in life. Having grown up on the Peninsula, I know it is one of the best places on earth to live, but also understand some of the unique challenges of the area. I worked as Chaplain at Dromana College from 2010-2014 and after my time there I went and worked in Thailand with an NGO providing aftercare to child victims of sex trafficking. Currently I’m completing my Masters in Theological Studies and am working in Frankston North doing chaplaincy and wellbeing there. I’m excited to get to know you and start running some positive programs this term.
School Attendance
Attendance is also an important element of your child’s education. There is a direct link between school attendance and achievement later in life. Poor patterns of attendance in the early years can lead to poor patterns of attendance throughout school. Students need to attend school regularly to make the most of educational opportunities. Children develop important skills, knowledge and values that set the scene for further learning and participation in their community. School helps children to make the most of life opportunities. Please use the data below to reflect on the number of days your child has been absent this year.
Additionally, I encourage all parents to support their child to arrive to school on time each day. Yesterday, we had 39 students arrive late to school.
How many days has your child missed this year?
0 – 12: This is within normal range.
A child with this attendance rate is able to take full advantage of the teaching and learning opportunities available.
13-20: This attendance rate is below average.
A child with this attendance rate could miss over 1 year of schooling between Prep and Year 10.
21-40: This is a poor attendance rate.
A child with this attendance rate could miss out on up to 2 years of schooling between Prep and Year 10.
40+: This is a very poor attendance rate.
A child with this attendance rate could miss over 2.5 years of schooling between Prep and Year 10.
Southern Peninsula Division Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday, fifteen students from Year 3 to 6 travelled to Ballam Park Athletics Centre to compete in the Southern Peninsula Division Athletics Carnival.
All of the children performed admirably. To progress through to the next level at Casey Fields next week, the children needed to finish first or second.
Three Boneo athletes qualified to compete at the next stage – Murphy (Shot Put), Isobel (Triple Jump) and Jed (200m).
Congratulations to all of our children who competed. A special thanks to the many parents and grandparents who also offered support and encouragement throughout the day.
Oaks Day
Full steam ahead! With only 4 weeks remaining until Oaks Day the pace is certainly picking up.
It is wonderful to see all of the planning come together as the day draws closer.
We are beyond thrilled to announce the return of Vanessa Harlem and Annette Sanfillipo to this year’s event. Their creative collaboration is a celebration of creativity and beauty.
Vanessa will again be providing our beauty station on the day. Sharing her expert tips and advice, and ensuring our guests look and feel amazing. We are incredibly spoilt to have the services of such an accomplished make up artist at our event. A huge thank you to Vanessa for her incredible generosity, she truly is a gorgeous lady.
‘Milliner Girl’, Annette Sanfillipo, is a well renowned millinery artist with years of experience in the fashion industry, having worked with many industry leaders. Annette will be judging our ‘2019 Fashions on the Field’ and offering her styling mastery.
We are incredibly excited to extend an amazing offer to our school community. Annette is offering an ‘Oaks Day Pop In’ at her Rosebud studio. This is an opportunity to coordinate your Oaks Day outfit in a relaxed and enjoyable experience, with Annette offering many affordable options for the complete race day outfit. I absolutely recommend this service as a Spring Carnival must-do.
Oaks Day Pop In, Wednesday 23rd October 2pm – 7pm, Corner of Pt Nepean Rd and First Avenue, Rosebud.
2020 Enrolments and Planning
This week we welcomed our 2020 Prep students for the first session of their transition program.
Planning is now underway for our 2020 class structures for all year levels.
It is vital that you notify the office immediately if you will not be returning to Boneo next year. This information is critical for our school planning.
Introducing baby ‘Banjo’
Congratulation to Stacey Doleman and her partner Miles on the safe arrival of ‘Banjo Lee’.
We wish you all the very best as you start this new journey, and we look forward to a visit soon.
Snapshot of Learning this Week
Year 4 – Angahook Camp
What a fantastic four days we had on Grade 4 camp!
Congratulations to everyone who attended the camp and enjoyed the rotation activities, the walk to the lighthouse and a trip to Erskine Falls. The staff at the Angahook Camp said it was “the best school group of the year” and were impressed with the way the students conducted themselves – including cleaning up the dining area after every meal to a high standard.
Thanks to our wonderful parents who attended – Cath, Angela and Aaron, our student teacher Olivia Raven and our staff members Gary Cooper and Jan Fletcher.
It was a wonderful camp!
